Please cite sources

[edit]

People are putting in some wonderfully poetic comments about Jagjit Singh - which I'm sure come from reviews and articles about him. Please WP:CITE your sources. If you want to quote a sentence from a review, please use quote marks and cite where you got it from.--Elen of the Roads (talk) 10:04, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Image

[edit]

I see that some editors keep changing the image of Jagjit Singh and keep adding the one with the File:Jagjit Singh performing at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, 12 September 2008.jpg. The performance image is a free image with higher resolution but does not show the face of the artist properly. Hence i had added another image. The Birmingham image can stay in the article, but not in the infobox. -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 18:22, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have just removed the image that was in the infobox. As things stand, it is unacceptable. The uploader needs to take a look at their account on Commons. - Sitush (talk) 15:44, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My recent edits

[edit]

I have been asked to take a look at this article due to various concerns, principally regarding a possible conflict of interest of one contributor and the alleged effects of this. You will see that I have had to tag an awful lot of the content as being in need of citations etc, as well as removing or adjusting other information in order to reflect the cited sources. To be honest, a lot of the article seems to me to be puffery and for this reason I do not intend to wait as long as I might normally do for someone to respond with the requested sources.

Wikipedia is neither a marketing, promotional or fan site. We require neutrality and insist that statements are verifiable by reference to reliable sources. I hope that someone can allay my concerns regarding this article because - right now - it is quite some distance away from our standards. - Sitush (talk) 16:55, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the image that I have removed once again from the infobox, ie: File:Jagjit_Singh_performing_at_Symphony_Hall,_Birmingham,_12_September_2008.jpg. Click on that link and there is a notice which explains the procedure that must be followed in order to validate that we have permission to use the image. Until that permission is verified, the image should stay out of the article as it could be a violation of copyright. - Sitush (talk) 09:07, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I moved the free image to the infobox. The other image should stay off until the issue is sorted out and permission is provided. And even then I think the image isn't suited for the infobox. I also fixed the infobox paramters that couldn't be properly changed by the recent overhaul of the musician infobox template. Those edits were reverted without explanation why they are negatively affecting the article so I reinstated them. Hekerui (talk) 12:04, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indic scripts for name

[edit]

We do not need three different Indic scripts listed against Singh's name. There has recently been a discussion regarding this issue in general at the India project talk page. Can anyone confirm his "native" language? Or if not that then the language in which he performed most of his works. Better still would be if someone knew how to create the WP:IPA - I do not care for it myself but it does appear to have some sort of consensus at WT:INB. - Sitush (talk) 12:42, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

He was an Indian Sikh, Punjabi was his mother language so that should be there. Gsingh (talk) 00:58, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Place of birth

[edit]

Singh's place of birth was given as Rajasthan, where previously it had said Bikaner princely state. I have reversed the recent change. I know that our source says Rajasthan but it is clearly wrong. It refers to post-partition but he was born in 1941 and partition did not occur until 1947; secondly, his home town, which is not in dispute, was in Bikaner until the creation of the state of Rajasthan in 1947. He could not have been born in a place that did not exist. - Sitush (talk) 21:43, 25 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
