Meaning of JACO back in 1960's (and earlier) - PMG Department
[edit]The term JACO was a signal sent by telegraphists at remote locations, such as post offices, in Australia. Jaco meant "the end of the day" and was sent at 5.09pm each working day. A response would come back from the "Traffic Officer" located at some central point, confirming the number of telegrams that should have been received by that outlet that day. This meant any telegrams that arrived after JACO were for the next day delivery by telegram boys at that local post office.
