DOB Erasing

[edit]

The DOB and related info has been removed from this article 4 times since Feb 2005 by anonymous Eircom.net IP users who do not make any comment justifying and do not change anything else in the article. This has not occurred in any other TD article with which I am familiar. It looks like a sustained campaign to obscure the DOB. I have reverted a number of times and will do so again after the upcoming general election. If this carries on after that point, I will request that the article is locked from anonymous editing.--Rye1967 16:42, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Rye1967, Fraud and theft of identity are made easier by personal information being published on the internet for dishonest persons to obtain easily. Perhaps one should think of that before publishing personal information. Thank you.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Katiearielle (talkcontribs)
Hi Katie and welcome to Wikipedia. Thanks for responding to my remark. The DOB of all TDs is already published on the Oireachtas website - http://www.Oireachtas.ie - in exactly the same way as Wikipedia. Therefore I don't agree that any of the editors who add DOB info here are making fraud EASIER (and none of us would wish to) but perhaps you need to address your concerns to the Oireachtas.
This issue would apply to pages on all politicians. I will check with other editors if the issue has been already been thought about, and if there is a standard policy on it. If there is, we need to apply that policy to ALL pages for TDs. In any case, just deleting the DOB from the current version of the page does not completely remove the info from the public since it is still available in the page history. To remove all historical data one needs to contact an administrator here.
You can sign your comments using 4 tildes - see example just above the edit box - which are then translated by the system to your name --Rye1967 11:11, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I didn't have to look very far. A link from this talk page goes to Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons#Privacy_of_birthdays which states that if less-notable public figures raise a concern then we should only publish the year of birth. I don't know if Mr Healy-Rae considers himself less-notable, or if he has raised a concern. However, in response to the removal of the exact date of birth by an anonymous IP, another anon user followed the exact policy, and replaced it with Year of Birth. That too was removed by yet another anon. Do YOU have concerns if I put the YOB back in?--Rye1967 11:22, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Todays anon DOB addition is an example of what happens when there is no DOB in the article. In the absence of any response to my comments above I am putting the YOB back in.--Rye1967 10:51, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • It's still going on. Anon users keep deleting it, no idea why. JHR proudly proclaims his dob in his own website [1] - Early years section, so it's not a privacy issue. Snappy56 20:06, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just put it back. If it keeps getting deleted, I would suggest requesting semi-protection. -- Blorg 16:23, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
DOB removed again today, another anon user with no justifying comment, and no other edits --Rye1967 02:15, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edits to policy

[edit]

Hi Katie, you removed the following.

He favours housing and commercial development in rural areas and opposes restrictions for protection of the environment, such as archeological investigation of the Hill of Tara.
He supports rural publicans and their customers and thus opposed the Smoking ban in Public places and stricter drink-driving regulations.

I belive them to be substantially true, as would many of his constituents. I added them as a neutral replacment for the following more ironic text

His contributions to Ireland include opposing the Smoking ban in Public places, and demanding that bulldozers and not archaeologists be brought to the Hill of Tara.

Can you explain what you think is wrong with them and propose an alternative.--Rye1967 11:42, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oldest TD

[edit]

This sentence was removed by an anon in Feb

He is the oldest member of the 29th Dáil.

Anyone have factual objections to why this sentence should not be re-inserted? See Harry Blaney for another exammple.--Rye1967 10:58, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
