"In 2014, he supported and help pass controversial legislation banning the feeding of the city's homeless in public."

This is a pretty big deal and should be in the article. Check the net.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/arnold-abbott-florida-advocate-defies-law-against-feeding-the-homeless-1.2825917

74.15.151.14 (talk) 06:16, 8 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This has become an even bigger deal. Please add the following sentence also:

On 13 November 2014 CNN reported that a 90 year old man and two ministers of religion had been arrested under these laws for handing out four plates of food to homeless people in a public park.

http://edition.cnn.com/2014/11/04/justice/florida-feeding-homeless-charges/?iref=obnetwork

The first sentence is not adequately supported by the cbc.ca article. Please work on it.
The second is a fairly close paraphrase of CNN, but WP:LIMITED might let it fly. I'd suggest making it less of a close paraphrase.--Elvey(tc) 02:50, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Most recently Mr. Seiler has caught the head lines for putting a 90 year old vet in jail. Why you may ask. Because this kind vet was feeding the homeless. For Shame Mr. Seiler. I hope you reevaluate your choices when representing the people you say you serve.

While the sloganeer in me notes that starvation does seem a cruel and unusual punishment for the "crime" of homelessness, your suggested edit is not encyclopedic.
The the CNN-verificable stuff was deleted because it violated our rules on plagiarism. I don't see a problem with the first request above. Respecting NPOV is key. See WP:NPOV.

The controversy over Arnold Abbot's charity organization is surely worthy of mention in the article. I would be willing to be everything I have that most people had not heard of Mayor Seiler until this controversy. There were protests outside his home in which he made comments supporting the law. Sorry, I didn't know how this worked, I thought it was more casual. I don't think I should have to have a PhD to edit wikipedia. Hyberbole asid... I think it is sickening that this article had to be locked in the first place. Wikipedia is getting increasingly political and it is driving users away. yonnie (talk) 17:28, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I seek edits that articulate the Mayor's direct involvement over homeless policies. Please elt me know what sources would be considered appropriate in tying him to it.

The other side

A couple sources that show another view: http://www.aleteia.org/en/society/article/media-reports-misleading-re-ft-lauderdale-man-arrested-for-feeding-homeless-5896572118237184

The mayor still seems to be a you-know-what to me, but we should still be neutral.

Expansion - Homeless. Gay rights.

[edit]

I gave a shot at a new section on the homeless legislation and enforcement news.

Folks think this is worth adding? Could use a more canonical source; not sure if this news blog meets WP:RS:

Seiler supports civil unions with full benefits, but opposes gay marriage [1]
