Article review

I have responded to a request for feedback on this article. Overall, I think it is a decent article that will of course continue to improve as we get closer to its planned production and release. However there are (were) a couple of issues:

  1. Copyedits -- that is, improvements to the way the article is written. I have tried my best to copyedit this article. If you have any trouble with it, please let me know or else rewrite what you don't like. You could, also, always look for help from others.
  2. IMDB (the Internet Movie Database) should be used sparingly as a reference, since much of it is editable by users, just like Wikipedia. There are only a handful of things provided by IMDB that are acceptable to reference here on Wikipedia... I remember seeing a list of 'em, somewhere around here... I could dig it up for you, if you want.

Anyways, hope this helps. Overall, it's a good first article! If you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to let me know on my talk page. Okay, bye now :) Bobnorwal (talk) 15:36, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Pittsburgh

Due to Paramount Pictures filming scenes in Pittsburgh for a Tom Cruise movie, City police are closing Forbes Avenue (from Sixth Avenue to McAnulty Drive) to vehicles and pedestrians from 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, Nov. 2, until 8 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 3. **Please note: cars exiting the Forbes Garage will be directed to cross Forbes Avenue to Chatham Square to Fifth Avenue when leaving campus.

McAnulty Drive will be closed from Locust Street to Forbes Avenue from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m.

The 10th Street Bridge, the Armstrong Tunnel and Duquesne’s pedestrian bridge over the Boulevard of the Allies on Bluff Street will also be closed from 7 p.m. today until 8 a.m. tomorrow. Extensive lighting will be set up on Bluff Street for filming purposes during this time. In addition, lighting will be set up in the Sklar Skywalk at the Power Center, but will not affect pedestrian traffic there.

Portions of 10th Street between PJ McArdle Roadway and Muriel Street will also be closed from 7 p.m. today until 8 a.m. tomorrow.

Additionally, the following South Side streets will also be closed and posted “No Parking”:

  • Muriel Street between 10th and 11th Streets
  • Bingham Street between 9th and 11th Streets
  • Cabot Way between 9th and 10th Streets
  • Sarah Street between 9th and 11th Streets
  • Selby Way between 9th and 10th Streets. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tony pizza (talkcontribs) 01:37, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

Spoilers

The plot section contains far too many spoilers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.215.239.102 (talk) 23:44, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

Reply to alleged spoilers; Illogical. Any film based on a novel generally precludes most wiki readers are: 1-familiar with and/or fans of the source novel 2-familiar with wikipedia's format and will click on the link to the novel

Reception on Reddit

What should be added about Alexander Rhodes and this post on Reddit? Reddit Source

It is currently undeniable that he's made a large impact on the internet community. Even Tom Cruise has retweeted him, seen Here, not to mention being listed as "Starring" in the film when searching for "jack reacher" on google. Seen Here. Please give a reason for deletion of this section if you are deleting it. This is factual, accurate and fully verifiable based on the links provided. I must also mention that this is not a joke edit. This is fully serious. --70.59.88.26 (talk) 03:21, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Let's wait until it comes out that this was a viral marketing campaign. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.11.123.31 (talk) 00:43, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Hmmm. interesting that Tom Cruise has mentioned it and promising for the long run. If it gets mentioned in a couple of independent sources, it might make for a mention down the article, but not in the lead and not with an extra in billing. Casliber (talk · contribs) 14:22, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
Here is an article. A passing mention is warranted, but attempts to put Rhodes on the top of the billing in the article is still vandalism. I would say to have a line or two at the end of the "Cast" section. Erik (talk | contribs) 15:01, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

If we can show proof that the reddit post was part of a viral marketing campaign then I think the info on the extra should be moved to the Marketing section — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.11.123.31 (talk) 21:15, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Sure, in the meantime it'll stay protected given the erm edits since unprotection. Casliber (talk · contribs) 07:52, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Plots prior to release

Since the reference support for film plots is the film itself, I'm not sure we run full plots before a film is released someone for public viewing. I'll check but in the meantime if someone would like to weigh in? --Tenebrae (talk) 19:19, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

Marketing

The Marketing section was recently altered in two ways, which I think needs to be discussed. The user Wikimafiacopo deleted any negative feedback to the trailer that was released. I will concede on this point halfway in that the criticism should be balance- i.e. some positive response and some negative response. That would be the most accurate way to report this information. For that reason I have re-added the original source for the negative feedback, and also kept the positive feedback. I believe this is a fair compromise. GambitEyes (talk) 14:30, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

I haven't seen any consensus anywhere in WikiProjet:Film for including reviews of the coming attractions, i.e., the trailers. Trailers can contain footage not in the final film, can suggest a story that the film itself doesn't have, and is not something Wikipedia should be promoting other than to mention the trailer's release along with any unusual aspect about it. We're not a marketing arm of the studios. --Tenebrae (talk) 17:15, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

Edit request on 20 December 2012

I am requesting an edit due to protection as the article is still showing a postponement of the General Release date when it has not.

The line "Jack Reacher was scheduled to be released on December 21, 2012, but its US premier was delayed after a school shooting on December 14." needs to be changed to "Jack Reacher is scheduled to be generally released on December 21, 2012, despite its US premier was delayed after a school shooting on December 14."

A source on the date still being active can be seen here: [ http://www.ibtimes.com/jack-reacher-premiere-postponed-after-newtown-shooting-941566 http://www.ibtimes.com/jack-reacher-premiere-postponed-after-newtown-shooting-941566 ]

Please fix it! 166.137.101.160 (talk) 07:35, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

Done. --Tenebrae (talk) 11:34, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

Author Lee Child cameo in Reacher film

Hello, can someone please add the following to the Production section:

Lee Child has a cameo in the film, playing a desk sergeant in a police station who signs Reacher out after a night in jail. Scene has Cruise and co-star Rosamund Pike. "Blink and you’ll miss it."[1][2] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.53.190.121 (talk) 08:56, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

I blinked, but I didn't miss it. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 09:49, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Edit request on 3 January 2013

Point on sequel is clearly nonsense. 2.25.209.180 (talk) 22:29, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Not Done. - I assume you are referring to "Messick is suing for "unspecified damages, his producer's fees and the right to participate in any upcoming sequels" then no. It is properly cited by a reliable source. Other than that, there is no other point regarding a sequel. MisterShiney 22:38, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Grammatical error.

In the sentence "the film stars Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher, the titular character", titular should be changed to eponymous. By wikipedia's own definition "titular" is nonsense in this context. 86.165.245.234 (talk) 19:15, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

Not done: The two words are synonymous when taken in this context, but the phrase is redundant, so I removed it. Regards, Celestra (talk) 03:29, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
