I hate to sound like a complainer, but this really reads like an advertisement for the JP1 forums rather than an encyclopedic article about the remote or the interface.
Article needs distinctions between JP-1.x versions
[edit]A 2009 post on the JP forums distinguishes some important differences between hardware versions:
JP1.1 remotes use an SST flash processor
JP1.2 remotes use a Motorola (Freescale) HCS08 flash processor
JP1.3 remotes use a Samsung S3F8 flash processor
...and the incompatibilities these cause. Some users have bricked JP1.3 remotes by connecting them to JP1.1 computer interfaces, which is said to load the Samsung S3F8 with some garbage, rendering it inoperable. The specific wiring differences between the JP1.1 and JP1.3 computer interfaces seem minor, (one wire in some cases), but the difference is signficant.
Which facts (and more) belong in the article, but it's unclear what to cite for 'em. The primary source seems to be a web forum. --AC (talk) 08:36, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
- All official JP1 announcements are made in the JP1 Forum, so that is likely the only source for factual info related to JP1. Robman94 (talk) 22:03, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
- More source verification may be found at http://www.remotecentral.com. Also, http://www.hifi-remote.com is based largely on material copied from a "One For All" website created by an employee of UEI. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.116.205.162 (talk) 00:10, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
Software section vague
[edit]The Software section currently leads with: "There are various software packages available. The core package at its simplest allows for the basic remote functionality to be updated via the PC. It also allows..."
- "The core package" -- What's the name of this core package?
- "It also allows..." etc. -- "It?" What's that name again?
