The journal is the main English publication for the JMA and WMA (Asia) region, and is used for the announcements and scholarly articles described in the article. Journal articles are by author invitation only allowijg the editors to control the importance and quality of the articles. Novel clinical and groundbreaking research is published by the journal but usually not as the first port of call for the authors. For example groundbreaking genetic therapy research conducted by a JMA member is likely to be published in the Lancet first, and then the author may be invited to write a followup article for the JMAJ.
