Spelling
[edit]There are two eras with very similar names:
The diacritics are missing on both. For some reason, one is listed as Jōō while the other is Jō'ō. There is no such difference. Both should be romanized as Jōō. Let me provide more details.
- Joo (first)
- Kanji: 貞応
- Kana: じょうおう
- Pronunciation (katakana): ジョーオー
- Pronunciation (IPA): ʥoːoː
- Romanization: Jōō
- Joo (second)
- Kanji: 承応
- Kana: じょうおう
- Pronunciation (katakana): ジョーオー
- Pronunciation (IPA): ʥoːoː
- Romanization: Jōō
The both even have the same accent in Japanese. They should both be spelled Jōō. However, they will need to be distinguished. Rather than "first" and "second", I propose the following:
The first Jōō occurred during the Kamakura period, while the second during the Edo period.
In addition, either Joo or Jōō should be used for disambiguation. I can take care of all of the details if a consensus can be reached. Comments? (Cross posted to Joo (first).) Bendono 03:24, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- As you well know by now, I'm all in favor of the macrons. Both of these should be moved to a Jōō spelling. As for the disambig modifier, I'm perfectly happy with "first" and "second", as the use of city names implies, I think, some association with the city. I suppose, if we wanted, we could disambiguate with (Kamakura period) and (Edo period); I think that's a much better idea than just using the city names alone. LordAmeth 09:19, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, the intention of Kamakura / Edo were to indicate the period, not the geographical locations. So perhaps it is best to spell it out in full. I am also fine with "first" and "second". Is there a preference between the following?
- Option 1
- Option 2
- There is already a redirect at Joo to Jōō, which is a disambiguation page. Bendono 00:28, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
As there was no more discussion, I went ahead with the proposed moves:
The rest became redirects. Bendono 21:34, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
