Name Derivation

The article stated that the name is a "...variant of Euan or Ewen, which is derived from Eoghan and is of Irish and Gaelic origin." The reference is to "Irish Baby Names" by Ó Corráin and Maguire but I have checked and this book makes no link between Iwan and Eoghan. The names may be cognate but it needs more to state that one derived from the other. On the other hand I can find references to Iwan being a variant of Ifan and related to Johannes (including elsewhere on Wikipedia). --Huwbwici (talk) 15:21, 18 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Similarly Owain/Owen is not related to Iwan/Evan/Ivan in Welsh. And no reference is given by the editor. Should this be removed? 80.189.61.120 (talk) 14:47, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Where the cited source has been checked and does not support the statement here, tag it with {{verification failed}}. It may be worth looking back through the history of the article in case the citation was originally given for a different statement, and other statements have been inserted before it, in which case move the citation back to the statements that it is good for.

Welsh pronunciation

Article says this: "Welsh pronunciation: [ˈi.wan]". Is this correct? I don't speak Welsh in any meaningful sense, but my basic understanding of the Welsh alphabet (not to mention the way I've heard Welsh speakers pronounce the name) gives me the sense this doesn't properly represent the sounds.
