Hi! I will be reviewing this article. Sainsf <^>Feel at home 04:24, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
Lead
[edit]- We generally do not include citations in the lead. I would like them removed and having any facts mentioned only in the lead to be mentioned in the main text as well.
- greatest marine artists in history. In whose history? The world's? Russia's?
- It is implied in the world's history. Should it be explicitly stated? --Երևանցի talk 12:56, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
- It would be good to do so. No harm in stating it. Sainsf <^>Feel at home 13:12, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
- Sorry. But I don't agree. When said "in history" it's meant "in world history". If it implied a specific country it would say just that: "Russian history", "French history", etc.--Երևանցի talk 10:47, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

Background and education
[edit]- Do we need bold here?
- Aivazovsky's brother, Gabriel, was a prominent historian and an Armenian Apostolic archbishop. Source?
- Duplink: Imperial Academy of Arts
- I think the image with caption "Farm House and Windmill by moonlight, 1863" should mention the artist.
- I actually replaced this image with a more relevant one.--Երևանցի talk 08:58, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
First visit to Europe
[edit]- his brother Gabriel Elder or younger to him?
- Elder. Already specified in the section above. --Երևանցի talk 09:08, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
- Can Catholic, Berlin, Italian art and Vienna be linked?
- "The echo of the success of his Italian exhibitions was even heard in Russia." Who said this?
Return to Russia and first marriage
[edit]- Link Romanticism
- and attract heavy criticism Should it be "attracted"?
- Duplink: Baltic Fleet
Rise to prominence
[edit]- In 1857, Aivazovsky visited Constantinople and ... of St. Vladimir in 1865. Source?
- "The vast majority of his works depict the sea." I think "his" is not proper here, mention the name.
Travels and accolades: 1860s–1880s
[edit]- Link Suez Canal, Prince of Wales
- Suez is already linked. Just did link Prince of Wales.--Երևանցի talk 08:58, 27 March 2016 (UTC)

Death
[edit]- What is a sarcophagus?
- See sarcophagus: "A sarcophagus (plural, sarcophagi; sarcophaguses) is a box-like funeral receptacle for a corpse, most commonly carved in stone, and displayed above ground, though it may also be buried."--Երևանցի talk 08:58, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
Aivazovsky the artist
[edit]- The section could be better renamed as "As an artist"
- I renamed it to simply "Art", similar to the Vincent van Gogh article.--Երևանցի talk 10:47, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
- Please mention from where the quotes come from
- During his sixty-year career Numbers above 10 are typically kept in digits

Style
[edit]- Duplink: Maxim Vorobiev
- remained faithful to this movement [Romanticism] all his life, even though he oriented his work toward the Realist genre Quoted from? There are similar instances in the following lines
- Ayvazovsky's Should this not be Aivazovsky's? Needs to be consistent.
Works
[edit]- An interesting fact to note is that some art critics have labeled Ivan Aivazovsky's paintings Orientalist. Source?
- Removed. It was added by someone else.--Երևանցի talk 09:08, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
- two-peaked biblical mountain What is that?
- See Mount Ararat. It is considered a "biblical mountain" due to its association with the flood myth and Noah's Ark. It is pretty obvious in the context.--Երևանցի talk 09:08, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
- Duplinks: Russian (Eastern) Armenia, Gabriel Aivazovsky

That should be all. Good luck! Sainsf <^>Feel at home 14:41, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
- @Yerevantsi: In the places where I ask "what is this", you should link or explain those terms in the article. Sainsf <^>Feel at home 09:22, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
- Ok. All done.--Երևանցի talk 10:47, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks Yerevantsi. No copyvio was detected and sources are fine. The prose is well-written and the article suffices in images. I am happy to promote this as a GA. Excellent job! Sainsf <^>Feel at home 10:56, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
