My edits reverted
[edit]I cut material from this article on the grounds that it was unreferenced and also not notable information - eg list of clubs which apply to lots of schools and colleges. I also marked several statements as needing citations. These edits have been reverted. Don't want to edit war so I will let the editor know on their talk page. Editor declared CoI on my talk page, so have tagged article CoI. Have left some comments for editor regarding use of reliable secondary sources. Article reads non-neutral to me. Tacyarg (talk) 03:10, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
- Good stuff Tacyarg, sounds like there are some WP:OWN issues in their response to you as well ("our wiki page"), but the editor seems to be a newcomer with good intentions as opposed to a deliberate POV-pusher, so well done for not biting.
- It is ok to use primary sources under some situations (see WP:PRIMARY) but it's not ideal, and they shouldn't be used for large passages. There is a clear non-neutral tone to the article, and in some cases I'd question the factual accuracy (I wouldn't say Sholing railway station is particularly close to the college, and even if it is, it's not a mainline station and often the frequency of services there is as little as one train per hour each way, so it's hardly a transport hub that makes the college easily accessible from all over Hampshire). Some of the assertions - such as the awards for the radio station - might be referenced in the local press, which would be a far better source than the college's Facebook page.
- The "notable alumni" definitely needs attention, particularly where living people are concerned.
- So I agree, we have some cleaning up to do. Now that User:Ardyer14 is aware of policy, if they revert any further clean-up attempts I think that should be met with a formal warning. WaggersTALK 08:53, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
- This is an incredible history section- and I have bought the book mentioned to read the New Mills Grammar School content. It does rather swamp the article- there have been two recent OFSTED full inspections which give much information. I am not sure that we have a handle on the best way to report a FE/Sixth form college, it will be interesting to see how far we can take this one.ClemRutter (talk) 10:23, 9 February 2019 (UTC)
