Background and recording

[edit]

"According to a July 2013 interview with Annabel Brog from Elle UK, "It Takes Two" was based on her separation from her boyfriend John Mayer. It was originally written when the pair were separated, however they later reconciled, stating: "I wrote it when we were still apart..... And I just played it to him. He was really moved". After the pair split, Perry decided to "reprogram" herself, including cutting out drinking coffee and alcohol, along with taking up to 30 herbal supplements a day. Eventually, after therapy, she began to feel "brush away the cobwebs", and so the inspiration for the song came about."

@XXSNUGGUMSXX: Do what you want with the text but keep some of the information. Oh, and the quote must stay too. Regarding the electric guitar situation, maybe he just played it and didn't really hear the song in its entirety, or even see the lyrics. There's a lot going on in the studios that we don't know about. prism 20:12, 12 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

According to the article, Perry played a rough version for him on a recorder, along with "Unconditionally". Assuming the track was brought into the studio later, where he played the guitar.--(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 20:19, 12 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'd reccomend you to specify that she played him a rough version of the song, in order to avoid confusions. prism 20:22, 12 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If such specifications cannot be found, remove the material from Elle UK since its phrasing makes misleading impressions. XXSNUGGUMSXX (talk) 20:24, 12 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Did you not read (CA)Giacobbe's comment? The article specifies that the version was rough. prism 20:25, 12 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Misread it, my bad XXSNUGGUMSXX (talk) 20:26, 12 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
