I don't think the Maffei could be the oldest liceo in italy, since in 1808 already there were some other state licei, which were former jesuit or baranabite colleges, like the future Visconti in Rome, the liceo di Porta Nuova (now Parini) and the liceo di Sant'Alessandro (now Beccaria) in Milan.
