Correct spelling of 'Bird'
[edit]Captain Henry Bird, the British officer in charge of the expedition against settler forts in Ky., including Ruddell's, is spelled in the article as both "Bird" and "Byrd". While I have seen both spellings in other places, they can't both be right, if anyone can verify the correct spelling please edit accordingly.75.90.148.14 (talk) 04:21, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
Incorrect placement of Ruddell's station
[edit]The article reads in the bio section, "In 1779, he established a fortified settlement on the South fork of the Licking River known as Ruddell's Station (or Fort Liberty) in Bourbon County one mile (1.6 km) from present-day Lair Station. The fort was built on the site of Hinkston's Station which was previously abandoned several years before. [3]"
I live very close to the site of Ruddell's Station, and it is in Harrison Co., not Bourbon Co. The confusion is probably due to the fact that Ruddell founded a fort of the same name in Bourbon Co., then took over the site that Hinkson (not Hinkston) had abandoned a few years earlier after an Indian attack. I just visited the site of the fort and massacre of 20 settlers a couple of weeks ago and can attest that it is in Harrison Co. I will make the according changes.75.90.148.14 (talk) 04:32, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
Birth place
[edit]Text gives his POB as Nottingham, Pa. That's presumably the Nottingham Lots area of modern Chester County PA, and Cecil County MD. If that's not what was meant, text needs to be made more clear. Also, while the text says Nottingham, PA, the info box gives his POB as Shenandoah County, VA. Don't know which is right, but they aren't both right. Ruddle is buried in the Stonermouth Cemetery near Ruddle's station (See http://files.usgwarchives.net/ky/bourbon/cemeteries/stoner.txt). Others buried there include persons believed to have been family connection to Shenanadoah Couty (the Colville's) though I don't know that this is correct. Irrespective, the disconnect between text and info box needs to be corrected, or at least the confusion over his POB noted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TwelveGreat (talk • contribs) 23:54, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
