[edit]- It's my belief that the sketch/image of Isaac C. Bates is not the same man as the Senator (the mistake lay with the Congressional website which has the same image). This drawing depicts a man in his 40s from a period in the latter half of the 19th century with a handlebar moustache. This style would not have been likely in the 1820s. - I located a portrait of Sen. Bates that appears to be the correct gentleman and dress and appearance fit the period. The website also includes a portrait of his wife. I don't know how to obtain permission from the website to utilize the image, so I will post the web address: http://noddebo.com/Bates_Isaac_Chapman_1779.bmp DJ Jones74 (talk) 09:26, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
