Is he really important enough?
[edit]Is he really important enough to have a page on Wikipedia? SkepticBanner (talk) 06:20, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes
[edit]Given the powerful influence of Dupont in the latter half of the 20th century, and the fact that Irving Shapiro was the first non-Dupont to head what had previously been an all-family enterprise, I think he merits an entry. This is all the more true in our increasingly oligarchic present, when understanding the history of American corporations helps in understanding the unprecedented influence of international corporations, now including Dupont, on our society today.
Shapiro himself was a a much bigger deal in the 20th century than in the 21st, so preserving and expanding his entry saves that bit of history for us, and for some future historian who might find here the missing piece of some crucial work.
Fortunately Wikipedia is not going to run out of pages, so people can and do create articles on much more obscure figures than this captain of industry who some credit with saving Dupont.
I have cleaned up the links and added references and sources, so anyone who is moved to write more about Shapiro will have a solid place to start.
Many thanks to Wikipedia for unjudgmentally preserving our history and acting as our collective memory.

- I didn't know that about him. The problem is that finding sources covering him seems rather difficult. I'm also very surprised that anybody would respond to my question over 2 years after I asked it. I guess I'll look for more sources on him. SkepticBanner (talk) 01:05, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
