"The Flash's Wife is A Two-Timer"
[edit]I believe that this Flash story was originally published in 1975. In it, Iris is drawn back to thirty years after her time of birth, meeting the Russells as an adult for the first time. Could someone please find the exact details so that it can be recorded in the footnotes? User Calibanu 16.08, 15 August 2007.
Split
[edit]The subsection about the character portrayed by actress Candice Patton has become too large, therefore should be split into a new page.--NeoBatfreak (talk) 20:35, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

Iris West Allen → Iris West – the character was originally introduced as Iris West, in addition, she is no longer married to Barry Allen as the result of time travel NeoBatfreak (talk) 12:10, 30 July 2017 (UTC)
- Seems reasonable to me. Argento Surfer (talk) 12:41, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
- Support move. The character is currently known as Iris West, is most well-known as Iris West, and the most prominent version of the character in other media is known as Iris West (albeit hyphenated as Iris West-Allen in an alternate future). ONR (talk) 01:49, 3 August 2017 (UTC)
- Comment: I'm OK with the move I suppose, but having read the various articles I'm confused. We're a general encyclopedia and someone coming to the Iris West article without any prior knowledge of these various universes would be hopelessly lost IMO, and that's what most needs fixing. The phrase no longer married to Barry Allen as the result of time travel sounds in-universe, and completely out of place in an RM discussion, and I think that's part of the problem... the articles need to scrupulously identify what is in-universe especially when there are multiple universes. And I don't think they do. If this move goes ahead, then the article must either be rescoped to cover all characters by that name, or alternatively link by hatnote to a DAB or BCA that clearly distinguishes them. Writing about fiction
[edit]Further to my comment in the RM above, I'd like to throw out a challenge to those involved in this article and similar.
Have a look at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Writing about fiction#Comics. I notice that despite there being for example 121 articles and 37 subcategories in Category:DC Comics characters, not one of these articles is cited in the parent section Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Writing about fiction#List of exemplary articles. And the parent category Category:DC Comics is similarly large and also absent from the list. There are 99 templates in Category:DC Comics templates alone, plus four subcategories.
So there's an enormous amount of material here, but it's high-quantity low-quality material. The whole of Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Writing about fiction is a good read.
I don't want to go back to the days when such articles were deleted as fancruft. But my appeal is, can we try to write high-quality articles and get them to at least good article, and a few at least to featured article, status? There seem to be many willing hands.
Step one is to find reliable secondary sources. And if there aren't any, as I suspect for much of the in-universe material we have, then that's the problem. The articles need to be refocussed on the published secondary sources rather than simply listing the in-universe plot details... which is fine at fansites, but completely inappropriate at Wikipedia. Andrewa (talk) 16:17, 8 August 2017 (UTC)
- Most of the character articles don't (and can't) pass GNG. There is a slow-but-ongoing effort to merge them into lists like List of Marvel Comics characters: A. The ones that can pass GNG are also the most popular characters, and therefore hard to keep cruft-free. Argento Surfer (talk) 13:01, 9 August 2017 (UTC)
Sentence ambiguity
[edit]The structure of the second sentence in the article, "She has been the main love interest and later wife of Barry Allen, the alter ego of the Silver Age version of the superhero The Flash, and the aunt and grandmother, respectively, of the Modern Age variations of the characters Wally West and Bart Allen", creates ambiguity. It makes it sound like Iris was the alter ego of the Flash rather than Barry Allen. 50.43.152.156 (talk) 02:57, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
