Notability?
[edit]Just because musicians are notable, doesn't make the places they play in notable. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:38, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
OK...just how does this article "assert notablity" and how is that notability reliably verified in the article? Not seeing that, I am going to PROD it. -- Gmatsuda (talk) 21:20, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, considering that this article, with the very same content, was speedied earlier (and then re-created by another author), I am going to restore the speedy. -- Gmatsuda (talk) 21:22, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
- FYI: page log
- First, there is a demonstration of notability per the notability guidelines via substantial coverage in an independent source so it does not have to asert notability. The assertion is severalfold - critics calling it the best jazz club in NYC, and "many major releases recorded live at..." Maybe it is notable, maybe it is not, but it is not a clear case and therefore not speedy deletion material. The speedy is now contested so it must go through AfD. I'm removing again. A prior speedy does not give grounds for speedy under G4. If you want to watch out for GDFL issues you can restore the history. Wikidemo (talk) 21:33, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
- Also see the above. It's not quite a template:hangon, but it equates to the same thing. If someone is planning to improve the article, that's another reason why speedy would be inappropriate. Wikidemo (talk) 21:34, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

- Artists record at tons of clubs, big and small. I guess that means on that fact alone, all of them should have Wikipedia articles. Ridiculous. If that is all it takes to be notable here, all I can say is "wow." -- Gmatsuda (talk) 21:36, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
- A venue achieves notability by what happens inside the venue. You're stretching the argument to the absurd. "Many major relases recorded live at" is an obvious claim to importance and speedy is inapplicable to articles that claim importance. Whether it is a correct claim or not is a matter for AfD, not speedy. Please don't get so attached to your speedy nomination that you lose sight of the process. If the club isn't notable it won't pass AfD; if it is and it's improved enough to show it, it will. This is about improving the encyclopedia, not winning a point of debate.
