Oxford VC elect - updates requested

[edit]

Hello-

Irene Tracey was recently nominated Oxford’s next Vice-Chancellor. I can see that someone has already added that information to the page (thanks to the editor who was so quick!). With the increased notability the role brings, I wondered if someone might be willing to make a few updates to the page. I think the biography on the Merton College Oxford bio on Irene is fairly accurate - I've provided a few suggestions and links below but comparison to that page may be the easiest way to go.

  • correcting her intro and academic career - she is no longer Head of Department of Clinical Neurosciences
  • Adding to her academic career section - there are a number of additional fellowships etc in her biographies, as well as roles held such as the Medical Research Council and FENS.
  • Adding the role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor without portfolio for Oxford
  • Adding publications - there are a large number, but the Merton page does give a nice selection
  • Giving the article a once over for grammar and capitalisation (there’s at least one university of Oxford)

Conflict of Interest edits

[edit]

A number of edits made on 23 September 2022 look to be potential WP:COI and/or WP:PAID. I have posted a polite message on the talk page of the user who made them and cleaned up, somewhat, but there are still issues of inappropriate citations (effectively just links to organizations mentioned in the article that don't actually "source" the information), lengthy quotes added without citations, etc. I don't have time to tidy the whole thing but noting the issue here. 45154james (talk) 10:28, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've tidied the COI edits as much as I'm going to. A few citations need supplying (secondary citations ideally not sourced from the University of Oxford and/or colleges... and the "Research" section needs translating into words that ordinary people can understand). 45154james (talk) 18:06, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

And now I've done that I suspect whole chunks of the article have, in fact, been lifted verbatim from other web pages WP:COPYVIO, so will probably need swiftly deleting. :/ 45154james (talk) 21:15, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As noted above, a few chunks of this article have very obviously been lifted from Irene Tracey's own web page(s). Whether that amounts to WP:COPYVIO is not for me to judge; however, it's clearly not consistent with WP:COPYPASTE. If anyone cares to investigate this further... 45154james (talk) 18:41, 4 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think I've now addressed most of the remaining issues and I do hope I've improved things - apologies for any regressions to the mean. I see that the COI tag has been removed, which I think is fine.Much of the "Research" section has apparently been copied from elsewhere (WP:COPYPASTE), but the whole thing needs rewriting from scratch in understandable English. I may attempt to do this later. I am also trying to source a photo of Irene Tracey from Oxford University. 45154james (talk)
Research section now rewritten. Hopefully it is reasonably on-target, although neuroscience is not my area - so someone else please check and correct as necessary. 45154james (talk) 13:21, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox needs modifying - officeholder and scientist

[edit]

The current infobox is "infobox scientist", but Irene Tracey is also an "officeholder" (VC of Oxford University) - so the infobox ideally needs modifying to combine the two. I haven't managed to figure out how to do this so perhaps someone else could address it? Thanks... 45154james (talk) 13:29, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

45154james, perhaps Template:Infobox officeholder#Embedding other templates would work. TSventon (talk) 13:51, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much! That worked. 45154james (talk) 17:00, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

COI edit request - protest

[edit]

There have been a handful of substantial additions to this page (5k+ bytes to a 30k byte article) covering protests happening in Oxford over the past 6 months or so. This would appear to me to be undue weight; however I shouldn't be editing it and would appreciate someone with a neutral POV who can review.

If someone were willing to take a look and consider what might be appropriate, that would be appreciated. As always, happy to discuss further or provide any additional information/links that would be useful. Liz McCarthy (talk) 20:48, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
