For discussion of Intravenous drug use (recreational) see the talk page for that article: Talk:Intravenous drug use (recreational). This page used to redirect there. Tocharianne 03:21, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
I have heard the phrase used only in the context of illegal drug use. Never anything else. I can't think of a sentence or a paragraph heading or a context in which the phrase might be used meaning "iv drug therapy". Doctors or hospitals or patients would not use the phrase because of the association of the phrase with illegal drug use. Martin | talk • contribs 07:04, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
- This article used to be about intravenous therapy so I originally redirected it there. Then I realized that most of the "What links here" were for the illegal drug use so made it a disambiguation page instead. It could be that the term is primarily used for illegal use and maybe we want to redirect it to Intravenous drug use (recreational). (Looking in the history, this article used to be about the recreational use so someone moved it to "IV drug use (rec)" then rewrote the article to be about the medical use. But then it duplicated "IV therapy" so I changed it.) I honestly don't know whether the phrase "IV drug use" is used by doctors or not, but if it is that perhaps this should be kept as a disambiguation page. Otherwise we can redirect to "IV drug use (rec)" and have a link there saying "for the medical use see 'IV therapy'". Tocharianne 17:09, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the comments and the history. I was trying to explain what I meant to someone else, and they didn't seem to understand. I got here by accident, really. IMHO the phrase is only used for illegal drug use; is not used by doctors AFAIK, and so disambiguation is ??? not needed. It is hardly high priority, certainly not with me. Note that the disambiguation page for "user" does not contain the "illegal drug user" meaning, which seems funny. The other meaning (from my background) was "computer user" as opposed to "applications developer": go talk to the users. Not the most flattering designation.
