Missouri Route 249

Would Missouri 249 be considered a spur route of (future) I-49?

Plans are for Missouri 249 to be part of I-49 itself. If you drive north on US 71 at I-44, it turns into MO 249 (US 71 joins I-44 and heads east for an exit or two).Rt66lt 03:32, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

I-29

Are there any plans to integrate the extended I-49 with I-29 (perhaps renaming one or the other)? They will share a common endpoint of downtown Kansas City, and follow roughly the same trajectory. All Kansas City needs is yet another highway number to accompany Interstates 29, 35, 70, 435, 470, 635, and 670, not to mention the myriad US, Missouri, and Kansas highways. --Xyzzyva (talk) 02:35, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

I think the best way to solve this problem is to eventually renumber the current I-29 to I-35 and the current I-35 North of Kansas City to I-49. This will also instantly create another Canada to Mexico Interstate Highway besides I-5 and future I-69 extension. Jungworld.com (talk) 06:49, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Exit list for I-49 in Missouri / I-49 in Missouri article - done

I was going to add an exit list for Missouri, but User:Intelati has already created one. The list is inside what looks like an "I-49 in Missouri" article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Intelati/Sandbox/1 Intelati says they are taking a break from Wikipedia, but they have edited the article through September 2012; hopefully they will add it to this page soon. Texas

I forgot to note that I-49 would eventually traverse the extreme Northeast section of Texas for about 5 miles and then go back to Arkansas. Should there be a section for Texas? Night Tracks (talk) 01:25, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

Northern I-49 Extension

The page says that long-term plans are in place to extend I-49 from Shreveport, LA along the US-71 corridor through Texarkana (I-30), Ft. Smith (I-40), Joplin (I-44), up to Kansas City, MO. This would indeed serve as a vital North-South route for the Midwest all the way from Canada to I-10. I don't know a date, but it's going to be a while. As it says, the Bella Vista bypass is on an indefinate hold. The parts in Missouri (at least north of Joplin) are piecemeal, pretty much just around Nevada and a few other towns, otherwise it's simply divided highway until you get close to Harrisonville (about 150 miles). While everything is set up where interchanges could be put it, it's still going to be a while before it's finished. The Bella Vista bypass cannot really be ignored. Where US 71 leaves Pineville to Bella Vista is all lined with businesses now. To build interchanges would require tearing down a lot of businesses to build the ramps and overpasses - it would be expensive, and would probably be fought to the point of condemnation hearings in court. Nothing, by the way, has been done between Forth Smith and Texarkana. I've driven this (just about a year ago); it's a windy, two-lane highway the whole way. June 2013 -- The Bella Vista bypass is currently under construction around Hiwasse. AR voters approved a major bond issue for highways in Nov 2012, around the $500 billion level. Since the bypass tops the state list, more contracts will be awarded. Earlier in 2013, MO resigned US71 as I49, from just south of route EE (Pineville area, MacDonald county) north to just short of Kansas City. The section from EE to I44 in Joplin is dual-signed as I49 and US71. MO does plan to route I49 through the Joplin/Carthage area via MO 249, as 249 was built to modern codes. The current problem is where 249 and 71 meet just outside Carthage. The area was originally a diamond interchange between US71 (expressway) and a 5-lane surface avenue running east into Carthage. The road west of the interchange was converted into the MO 249 expressway. The interchange was not upgraded to handle this new expressway; the signals are blocking the I49 banner on this route. A re-route of the mainline and new ramps may be needed to deal with this interchange. US71 south of this location to I44 is very old expressway with narrow bridges and otherwise well below current code. Dtvjho (talk) 01:51, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

Infobox limitation

I'll just note here for future reference that {{infobox road}} can only support four segments of a highway. This article now lists four segments, so unless some of them are connected together by future construction, no additional segments can be added. Past consensus has not been to increase that limitation. Should it come to pass that another disconnected segment is opened, all of the disconnected segments should be removed from the main infobox, and {{infobox road small}} versions should be added to the body of the article as appropriate for each segment. Needs update for Louisiana

Orphaned references in Interstate 49

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Interstate 49's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I propose to merge all the state-specific articles for I-49 into this page. The route description and history on each state page is nearly identical to the one on this page. Needforspeed888 (talk) 18:03, 14 February 2020 (UTC)

  • Oppose. The articles need some attention. The length of highway in each state warrants an expansion of the RD sections in the state articles. The history and future sections in the parent article should actually be summarized down in scale. That all said, merging the exit lists together would be unwieldy, and that cautions against merging the articles together. Imzadi 1979  19:19, 14 February 2020 (UTC)
