This is outdated and needs to be updated (connection speeds, etc.).

I agree it is outdated, but perhaps including speeds and prices is unwise, considering the rapid changes in this technology. --DThomsen8 (talk) 21:43, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If one finds good sources those could be included for several points in time, to give a view on the history of commercial Internet access in Finland.
There is very much stuff missing.
  • An interesting thing would be comparing the Internet policy of Finland, where commercial operators have been trusted by the government to offer good enough connections, with that of Sweden, where the government has been more active.
  • At the time when ADSL connections were appearing, there was also a quite active movement to get fibre connections instead, by local non-commercial action (as ADSL seemed over prised and too slow for future needs). As prices came down this movement disappeared from media, but several such networks exist. Now the major operators have started offering fibre connections in the main cities.
  • As Nokia land Finland has been very positive to wireless connections. In the country side there is strong worries that replacing the copper based telephony with mobile phones will mean that fast Internet connections will be impossible in remote areas. The government has defined a minimum speed that many find too low.
