this is a total vanity/promo entry. i nominate it as a candidate for speedy deletion.

I disagree, this is a independent wrestling federation. Much of the wrestling stars of tomorrow get their start in places like this.Unright 04:56, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

I agree with Unright - however, the structure of the article ignores several material facts in reference to the controversies around this company. A couple of the salient ones - its main funding source is a pornography company that uses it as a loss-leader, many of the wrestlers on its rosters have sustained several concussions during their term with the company (Eddy Dorozowsky and Lufisto provide two interesting examples). Furthermore, the promotion has triggered a "hardcore wave" in Montreal, where other companies produce more dangerous matches to compete with their product. IWS was also one of the few promotions in Montreal to actually pay the wrestlers - a wrestler can receive between 25 and 200$ for matches, depending on the risk involved in the match. These points differentiate it from much of the local promotions in Montreal and should be mentioned - the current article is a disgrace and an advertisement in disguise.

"its main funding source is a pornography company that uses it as a loss-leader" inaccurate the comapny is co-owned by Manny Elefthriou aka PCP CrazyF'N Manny and Danny Cox and is run on a for profit basis it is not a loss leader - "many of the wrestlers on its rosters have sustained several concussions during their term with the company" misleading, concussions sadly are a risk in wrestling like they are in football, but they can happen on innocuous moves as easily as high risk ones. I also mentioned some of the darker moments in IWS history. Stop removing my edits, it's important for everyone to get a fair picture of the IWS!!!!!!!

Let me just point out that I do put my name on any edit that I make AND I give facts not opinions. Yes, I do work for the IWS. This actually qualifies me as an expert. And, in fact, the only guy who writes as much about the Quebec wrestling scene as me is Pat Laprade and he would tend to agree that we both have biases but we both agnowledge them. As an example of how I tend to be regarded by most "objective" wrestling observers in Quebec, my profiles/bios of IWS stars have been lifted word for word and translated into French for the wikipedia based site luttemedia.com. You on the other hand, don't sign your edits and include false/inaccurate and misleading statements. For example:

"In 2005," Actually September 2004 "the IWS became immersed in a controversy with one of its stars, Derek Arsenault aka The Arsenal." I prefer the words fired to immersed in controversy. "The Arsenal, a former transitional IWS champion," he was champion from August 16 2003 until January 17 2004 hardly a transitional champion. "was originally in charge of producing videos of IWS shows." yup. "In a battle over royalty rights to the sales of videotapes, The Arsenal was expelled from the company to the dismay of many of its fans." uh. no. Arsenal was fired because he complained in public on the czwfans message board about Smart Mark Video being brought in to tape and edit the shows. Since Mike Burns of Smart Mark Video was committing himself to drive 800 miles to Montreal and back to do this, Manny was a little upset that the Arsenal was complaining in public and breaking kayfabe, so he fired him. The Arsenal was re-hired before Christmas. He only missed three shows. That's not really a controversy. "Many fans speculated the ulterior motive of the IWS management was to make room for Trent Acid, Pornstar Juan or Twiggy at the top of the pecking order." That's just silly. I dare you to source this. I don't recall even ONE fan saying this about Trent Acid, who in any case was fired publicly by Manny for threatening on his hot-line to attack Mike Burns at one of our shows. Twiggy and Pornstar Juan are loveable jobbers. Twiggy made his debut in February 2004, but then wasn't seen again until April 23rd, 2005 when Juan made his debut. So the entire Arsenal thing was over before these two even started wrestling regularly.

"IWS was also the main federation to showcase convicted murderer Kurt Lauder aka Kurt Lauderdale." -During the time that Kurt Lauder wrestled for the IWS he was not a convicted killer and he was not even arrested. "Lauder rose through the ranks at IWS" True but used in the context that you are using it makes it sound like he rose through the ranks after killing someone. "and even wrestled there the day after he murdered a 16-year-old girl to diffuse the suspicion of fans and authorities." *sigh* Shana Poissant was tragically murdered by Kurt Lauder on July 11, 2005. Lauder did wrestle for the IWS on July 23rd, but only after the police made a public statement that Kurt Lauder was not a suspect in Shanna Poissant's disappearance (her body had not yet been found.) As it turned out that statement by the police was a ruse on their parts, but we had no way of knowing that. "Lauder's placing under custody made room for Kenny The Bastard to become a top-flight superstar in the company." - Kenny was at the time one half of the tag team champions the Flying Hurricanes. Not even in the same division as Kurt Lauder. Again you're just being silly. And frankly in remarkably bad taste considering the circumstances.Llakor

To give just three good reasons for notability: The IWS is the first Canadian wrestling promotion to have its own pay-per-view (which was covered by the wrestling press at the time). It is the first Canadian promotion to put on a show in Viking Hall, the historic ECW Arena (again covered by the wrestling press at the time.) It is the home promotion of El Generico, Kevin Steen, Beef Wellington and Sexxxy Eddy and was important to the careers of Dru Onyx and Lufisto, all of whom are considered notable independent wrestlers.Llakor

Bias

I have publicly admitted and do not hide that I work for the IWS. Virtually all of the information given in the article can be cross-checked either on the internet or in the Quebec Wrestling Almanacs written and published independently by Patrick Laprade who does not work for the IWS. The person who applied this tag has repeatedly added misleading or factually inaccurate information to the article as I noted above point by point. I will also point out that the article does not shy away from the controversies associated with the IWS, but tries to do so in an objective manner. Which is better - to state an unprovable opinion that the IWS made Quebec more violent by introducing and popularizing death-matches OR listing the facts about these notable and historic death matches and allowing the reader to reach their own conclusions?
