Copyvio

[edit]

Please see this link from ISSA. Barring a few recent cosmetic changes, the article uses the same words. While I think this should definitely have a page on Wikipedia, lifting promotional copy isn't the way to do it.--Marysunshine 03:57, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've cut the copied sections and rewritten parts of the article. Will that do it? --Mr. Billion 18:34, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I have no objections to it now. Thanks for stepping up to the plate and fixing this article! --Marysunshine 19:26, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ISICS around the world

[edit]

The Canadian Federation of Students/Travel Cuts offices issue the card in canada its a true fact and the policy you posted for me to read the wording is very vauge

Directories, directory entries, TV/Radio Guide or a resource for conducting business. For example, an article on a radio station generally shouldn't list upcoming events, current promotions, phone numbers, schedules etc. (although mention of major events or promotions may be acceptable). Furthermore, the Talk pages associated with an article are for talking about the article, not for conducting the business of the topic of the article.

Although I think my Original edit that included mention of Travel CUTS was against this policy.

Please remember Wikipedia is not censored Dr sean chronic RSX 05:58, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

True, but listing them all violates WP:NOT, as Wikipedia is not a directory. Ardenn 00:49, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Can YOU PLEASE elaborate on this directory stuff if you can't leave the page as isDr sean chronic RSX 22:50, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Read it yourself. You've two eyes, and your own user page leads me to believe you can read. --Ardenn 23:00, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
K, I asked you in good faith to explain your edit no need to be rudeDr sean chronic RSX 23:04, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It means, Sean, that Wikipedia isn't used to list every retailer of the card. That's not the job of an encyclopedia. Ardenn 23:08, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image

[edit]

Although it does appear to be a legitimate ISIC card...I think featuring Zacarias Moussaoui's card distracts from the rest of the article's content. It would be much better to have a generic photo...once that wasn't so loaded and unrelated...if someone had a better image...it would be much appreciated Farsnickle 20:30, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Written like and Advertisement

[edit]

So, I agree that this article is written one sided and like an advertisement. I also think it would be fair to add a section called criticism/drawbacks, for example limited recognition in many countries and by many museums or that many of the benefits and student discounts that ISIC lists are given to all students regardless if they hold a ISIC card or not. I also think the structure of the article needs reworking, some of the main titles should be demoted onto the next lower level. -Lumber Jack- (talk) 23:27, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The History section, which I think could be the most interesting part of a 60 year old identification card is disappointing. I mean, it mentions the International Student Conference (ISC) quite predominately and tries to explain how the card was set up in the 50s. It even mentions DSF as the National Unions of Students and Coordinating Secretariat of National Unions of Students (COSEC), but fails to mention the SFS, NUS, NSU (now part of NSO, NSA (now part of USSA) among others. The article even cite a document from Union of Students in Switzerland (Report on International Student Travel Conference 1954, Zurich) five times, but doesn't get the internal link to VSS-UNES-USU correct.
Later the article states that in the 60s UNESCO recognition was achieved, but sadly it doesn't explain how that was achieved (through lobbying by National Students' Unions and by IUS and ISC) and what kind of structure the International Student Identity Card (ISIC) had. Because from at least 1969, when ISC was dissolved, if not earlier, the international decisions regarding ISIC (the card) were taken at IUS assemblies. In fact, ISIC was part of IUS until 21 Apr 1989 when ISIC became independent as the ISIC Association from IUS.
In recent history, the article fails to explain how ISIC went from being an identification and travel card that was organised and managed by individual Students' Unions from 1953 to 1990, to an everyday student lifestyle card that is mostly managed by travel agencies. -Lumber Jack- (talk) 00:05, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have to agree with the fact that this sounds like a giant advertisement. We had an ISIC guy invited to our student exchange scholarship event, who laid out in great detail how amazing this card is. After he left, everyone quietly told their neighbour that it is entirely useless. Just checking the museums in my immediate surrounding (Kyoto), none of the ones listed on the ISIC website are ISIC exclusives. The whole thing is for all intends and purposes a sheer waste of money and there is no mention anywhere in the article that that is the case, despite everyone I know (anecdotal, I know) having held one would attest to its uselessness. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.228.239.82 (talk) 03:42, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Section "Facts about ISIC"

[edit]

I'm glad to see that at least one section contains facts! I propose to increase the quality of the Wikipedia by deleting all non-fact sections from the article.-217.248.29.246 (talk) 12:40, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
