The International Certification Accreditation Council (ICAC) is a not-for-profit organization that has been in existence since 1996. It is referenced on various accredited association websites and documentation - associations with combined membership of over 40,000 members worldwide. It is very likely those members may turn to Wikipedia as a reference source to determine what ICAC is and does.

In addition, the ICAC has established guidelines to evaluate industry trade association certification programs (with over 100 already accredited) throughout the US. It also provides educational services to the not-for-profit industry on the value of accreditation, and what industry standards apply. Volunteer members of the ICAC speak at various trade association meetings, referencing the organization. Again, members of the audience may turn to Wikipedia to obtain further information about ICAC as a point of reference.

There are over 7600 national trade associations established within the US, most of which have certification programs. Many US government bodies as well as private industry are beginning to require that these be evaluated by third parties (accredited). There are only a handful of these accrediting bodies established within the US, of which ICAC is one. Nearly every other accrediting body active in the market is currently listed within Wikipedia (such as ANSI, the Board of Certification, Inc., National Certification Corporation, and others.)
