Spelling
[edit]Is "Inquilab" really the spelling most commonly used? It's not an accurate transcription of the original Arabic انقلاب , and I very much doubt whether it's an accurate reflection of the common Hindi pronounciation... AnonMoos (talk) 20:46, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
- Its the only spelling I have ever heard, and it accurately represents the pronunciation. -- 20:56, 26 August 2009 68.146.72.200
- "Qu" in English generally means [kw], while "q" used to transcribe Arabic ق generally means a uvular sound, and I doubt that either is found in the Hindi pronunciation of this phrase... AnonMoos (talk) 18:53, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- As I see it, Inquilaab is the correct transcription, but it isn't that important, I have seen it both ways. -- 02:05, 18 December 2009 68.146.72.200
- Inquilab is totally wrong, "qui" makes NO sense. It is only important if you value accuracy, which Wikipedia is notoriously lax about, so I guess it really isn't. The standard academic transliteration of the Devanagari would be *inqilāb* or *inqilaab*. -- 18:33, 18 June 2010 75.88.94.190
- I agree. The usual transliteration (and e.g. the one valid in Scrabble) is inqilab. Equinox ◑ 14:53, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
