Color image on Wikipedia page and subspecies 'orientalis.'

[edit]

The color image of Chrysocorythus estherae (nominate) on this page is in error because the males have almost no white in their wings.

The name Chrysocorythus estherae orientalis (Chasen, 1940) may not necessarily be an available scientific name because it was originally described by Chasen in Serinus as S. e. orientalis. It would be a junior homonym due to the availability of Serinus orientalis C. L. Brehm, 1831 (=Serinus serinus). The key question is whether or not Chasen's name orientalis has been used in more than twenty-four or twenty-five works with a fifty-year span as per the conditions of the ICZN Code, Art. 23.9.1.2. This is an oversimplified summary of what would need to be considered to reverse precedence. Thus, the nomen novum for this name, which is Serinus [Chrysocorythus] estherae chaseni, may need to be considered. mmslouis
