Practical use
[edit]Could someone confirms that this higher velocity means Indium phosphide could help make faster computers? If that holds true, what would be the consequences on Moore’s Law?

Graph & formula do not match
[edit]The article presents a formula and a graph for the index of refraction of InP; they are inconsistent. For example, the formula yields an "n" of 3.326 at 1 micron, whereas the graph (and its accompanying text) list about 3.47 at 1 micron.
Can someone tell which (if either) is correct? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.18.222.73 (talk) 18:57, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
This part below is deleted from the article because
- it is inconsistent, as mentioned above (which inconsistency I confirm); the figure is a wrong reproduction of the empirical formula (i.e. fit of missing experimental data), for which no source is provided.
- it unbalances this article which desperately needs basic properties, not rare ones.

Optical properties (removed from the article)
[edit]The Sellmeier equation that describes how the optical refractive index for indium phosphide depends on wavelength is given by where λ is the wavelength in micrometres.
This gives refractive index values rising from around 3.21 at 10 µm and 3.32 at 1.5 µm to 3.47 at 1.0 µm.
