Incorrect Passenger Traffic Data

The airport is NOT THE 27th BUSIEST AIRPORT IN THE WORLD as reported in this article. That claim lies with Kuala Lumpur International (as is clearly indicated in the sources), as does the figure of 37.88 Million Passengers per annum. The official AAI data for Delhi airport indicates a decrease in passenger volume to 34368411 passengers a year with 280713 aircraft movements and 11566102 international passengers. Due to the semi-protected nature of the article, spurious and wrongly sourced data has been put up!

AAI data is available at http://www.aai.aero/traffic_news/mar2k13annex3.pdf — Preceding unsigned comment added by 14.98.145.57 (talk) 06:48, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Indian A320.jpg

Image:Indian A320.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 08:27, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

31 million passengers?

Out of curiosity, when did DEL handle 31 million passengers in one year? The source only says 26.12 million. Was this because of the influx due to the Commonwealth Games or is it false info? Avatarfanx2 (talk) 02:19, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Is there any reason why the map says "Location in Haryana"? Personally I feel the map is somewhat unnecessary...Perhaps we can get a map that shows the location in Delhi instead? Wrong data

I have verified the source which say " With a growing air presence our airport is all set to serve around 34 million passengers this coming year" means its in future not current data. I think we should revert the old data until we get new data. ie passenger handled in 2010-11. KuwarOnline Talk 11:49, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

There is a pathetic gallery of images of T3. I had earlier removed it, but it got re-added. As per WP:IG, However, Wikipedia is not an image repository. A gallery is not a tool to shoehorn images into an article, and a gallery consisting of an indiscriminate collection of images of the article subject should generally either be improved in accordance with the above paragraph or moved to Wikimedia Commons.. This section is not needed, and needlessly clutters the article. Even the article on Sahar Airport is not cluttered this badly. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 16:52, 22 March 2015 (UTC)

Agree. It's an unnecessary display of too many images. I have left a message on the M.soumen's talk page who reverted back to adding these images.  LeoFrank  Talk 17:59, 22 March 2015 (UTC)

First of all, it was me who removed some of the unnecessary images from the Delhi Airport article, particularly from T3 section, then actually 123.201.181.224 reverted my edits on 13 March (see history). After the user 123.201.181.224 used gallery format for images, I checked other airport articles in details (Hong Kong International Airport, Dubai International Airport) and there also image gallery for Terminal facility have been included. So I decided to carry on with it and edited some with few insignificant with interesting one. If you all think images should be removed I'm not opposed to it. But certain minimum no of representative pic is essential. -M.soumen (talk) 18:28, 22 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi @M.soumen:, my main statement here is that the gallery only shows the insides of the terminal. Perhaps, a separate Commons category like Art at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport can be created and a link inserted in the section where the images are presently kept. An overdose of images is going to make the article look unbalanced, and might ruin the chances of getting it to GA. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 19:08, 22 March 2015 (UTC)
I think that the images could be interspersed throughout the article instead of maintaining a gallery. Anonymousbananas (talk) 16:08, 23 May 2015 (UTC)

JetKonnect is not a separate airline

An IP is bound on keeping destinations marked as served by JetKonnect as a separate row stating that it is a separate airline. Well, the answer is no, it is not s separate airline. The erstwhile JetLite was fully merged into JetAirways to operate as JetKonnect. This was done to bring the entire operations under one management. Even when JetLite existed, JetKonnect was operation as the low-cost brand of Jet Airways and it continues to be the same. Post merger of JetLite into Jet Airways, a few flights were still operated under IATA code S2 which belonged to JetLite. The complete transition to use only 9W code was completed late last year and having a separate row for JetKonnect is pointless.  LeoFrank  Talk 18:46, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

JetKonnect is a separate airlines as of August 2015

Hi LeoFrank, As per media reports, late last year (2014) Jet Airways decided to scrap LCC model and to bring in operational coordination it re-branded its entire operation into full service.[1] But the the subsidiary JetKonnect continue to exist as of now with separate AOP and not merged into Jet's mainline operation. Although JetKonnect operates code-shared (9W) flights on behalf of Jet. Just as Tyrolean Airways used to operate on behalf of Austrian till 31 March 2015. Another proof of it being separate airlines is DGCA continue to reports separate traffic data for JetKonnect, if it already merged into Jet then no such separate data should exist.[2] More recent media reports also speculated Jet selling minority stake in JetKonnect.[3] All these above indicates JetKonnect as being a separate airlines although it flies code-shared flights for its parent Jet as of August 2015. Thanks M.soumen (talk) 09:05, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

Nope. Unless the airline operates with its own IATA, ICAo codes and callsign, it cannot be considered a separate airline.  LeoFrank  Talk 15:12, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
FYI, this article calls JetLite as the low-cost brand whereas it was a separate airline and a low cost subsidiary of 9W post the Air Sahara buyout. Pretty wrong article to cite. The DGCA traffic stats are Jet Airways + JetLite. Note that JetLite is no longer existent due to the single model adaptation by 9W. Even the website of JetKonnect states that JetKonnect is just a brand.

Effective from March 25, 2012, JetLite Airlines will cease to operate separately, but will come under the JetKonnect brand, enabling guests to avail of a single superior domestic-flight product in the full service (Jet Airways) and low-fare categories. This will be further expanded in a phased manner

 LeoFrank  Talk 15:26, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
9W is the IATA code still used for JetKonnect and Jet Airways operations. The former is therefore not an independent airline as stated above.--Jetstreamer Talk 16:28, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

As of September 2015, Jet Airways plans to merge its subsidiary JetLite, which runs JetKonnect branded flights, into its mainline operation. And the report says that the two operate with their different AOPs. This indicates Jet Airways and JetKonnect are two separate airlines atleast for now untill they officially merge. Reference M.soumen, (talk) 05:35, 3 September 2015 (UTC)

A wrong reference given in the first place. But as stated above by me, JetLite has been completely merged into Jet Airways as JetKonnect. JetKonnect was never and is not a separate airline. When both operate under the 9W code, how does JetKonnect become a separate airline? And please don;t cite references here. Most newspaper articles were calling Indian Airlines as Air India way before the two merged officially in Feb 2011, can't reply on them in such situations! We have to do some restoration of the JetLite page rather than redirecting it to JetKonnect. It needs to be updated as a defunct airline.  LeoFrank  Talk 17:20, 4 September 2015 (UTC)

Thai Smile and Air India Express.

Hello all,

Two of my edits were recently reverted despite having the reason for removal. I had originally removed the Thai Smile listing, as no concrete date was given nor were the said flights available on the GDS (see the given source - here), while I had removed the Tehran listing for Air India Express as multiple news sources have quoted the airline as saying they have indefinitely shelved these flights (one of the more recent news articles).

Any reason why these listings need to be included..?

Edit Warring by FlyJet777

FlyJet777 is keen on edit warring to make a point. Firstly, they need to see WP:SUMMARYNO. Secondly, 649pardeep has taken an effort to add 3rd column for refs, but FlyJet777 is hell bound on removing them as No need for that. When I reverted them, they revert back with this long edit summary]. FlyJet777, instead of edit warring, if you think you can make it better by adding more references and moving all of them to the 3rd column, please do so. This is at least a start towards the ref column, but the mere presence of few references instead of all does not warrant an unnecessary removal like you have done, rather helping in moving the references yourself would be constructive.  LeoFrank  Talk 02:05, 9 November 2018 (UTC)

References in passenger airlines and destinations table

The present condition of passenger airlines and destinations table in this article is not convincing. Firstly, references still have not been added for most airlines. Secondly, the references defined for rest of the airlines have been placed in an improper manner. It's not at all a good idea to club all the references namely those for the respective airlines' current destinations (usually, a common timetable of airline) and those for their upcoming destinations to which the respective airlines are yet to commence operations, in the reference column of the table. It's not only making the table cluttered but is also defeating the actual purpose of the reference column. From the way references have been added for passenger airlines and destinations tables in wiki articles of other major airports like New York's JFK, London's Heathrow, Chicago's O'Hare, Toronto's Pearson and so on, the apparent basic convention is to define the sources for upcoming destinations (to which flights are yet to be commenced) in the destinations column next to the name of the destination itself (like we used to do earlier without defining sources for current destinations). The third column, which is the reference column is reserved for defining only one common source for all the current destinations, i.e. the official timetable of the respective airlines. I don't see any problem in following the same convention here in this article also and other Indian airport articles where references have been already added in airlines and destinations tables. I'm in the process of adding references for all the airlines in this article and will hereafter follow the above convention while doing the same. Vibhss (talk) 19:08, 25 December 2018 (UTC)

Sculpture of Surya, the Hindu solar deity in Terminal 3.

An anonymous individual, editing while logged-out, has been repeatedly removing this image from the article (under Terminal 3), while providing the same rationale ("irrelevant image distorts the layout") – [1] – without discussing this change on the talk page. The image of the Sculpture of Surya from Terminal 3 has been a long-standing feature of this article (although this specific image is new), and is also highly relevant for inclusion and ought to be retained (see Google Image search results for "Indira Gandhi international terminal 3 sculpture" — [2]). So for now, while I have reverted the IP – [3] –, I would also like to seek consensus to ensure that the image stays in the article. — Nearly Headless Nick {c} 21:01, 18 April 2019 (UTC)

Firstly it should be noted that this is an image uploaded by you therefore your bias is to be highlighted in this case. Also an image of an interior detail not in any way of integral importance to the airport itself is not at all "highly relevant", this would need detailed explanation (e. g. like the "Lamp Bear" at Hamad Airport) - for such random interior details we have the Wikicommons link at the bottom page. Secondly, the article section is too short for the given amount of images which leads to the distortion of the layout at certain higher resolutions and actual interior images giving an overview of the airports overall style are of greater encyclopaedic importance. Our image usage guidelines as well as WP:AIRPORTS-CONTENT clearly state that images should be placed carefully and only if necessary - neither is the case here. The sculpture is 1) not important for the article's content in any way and 2) it has been badly placed under layout considerations and 3) you want your own image included. Therefore removed again and any further addition will be reported. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.217.125.11 (talk) 17:56, 24 April 2019 (UTC)
This image was uploaded by me, but it only replaced a previously used but lower quality image that had been retained on this article for a significant amount of time without opposition to its inclusion. It also appears that it is only you who is claiming that the image is causing layout issues at higher resolutions without actually producing any evidence that such as the case. It also appears that it is only your opinion that this image does not have "integral importance" or is somehow "not relevant" for the page, and you have expressed such opinion without providing a proper rationale for believing so. There is also no other user as of yet who thinks that this is the case either, and this can simply be established by the fact that even before this specific image was included in the article, there was another image of the same sculpture which has had a long-standing presence on the article without any dispute surrounding it. There is also nothing in our image use policy that forbids the use of this image. Therefore, the onus is upon you to show that the image is irrelevant by giving cogent reasons on the talk page and gaining consensus for its removal. I am not interested in a protracted revert-war, so I must warn you again that if you act against consensus and remove this long-standing image, I will have to report you to an administrator so that that your editing privileges may be revoked. — Nearly Headless Nick {c} 09:54, 26 April 2019 (UTC)

3O Response: I think it's quite nice and relevant enough to keep. Since I can't see the layout problems, could you tell us what browser, type of device (mobile/computer), etc you're using? We can always make the image smaller, since it's easy to see what it is even at 150px, like on this talk page. We could also move one of the images to the left? Or, since it's a little hard to make out the other ones, we could create a little gallery:

If we were going to take any of them out then the second one, despite being maybe the most interesting sculpture, is probably the worst quality photo. ─ ReconditeRodent « talk · contribs » 16:52, 26 April 2019 (UTC)

(edit conflict) Adding another opinion:
smiling head on pedestal
figures posed on a coil
hands extending from a wall over the check-in
Sculptures in Terminal 3: Hindu solar deity Surya (upper left), Surya Namaskara asanas (upper right), and hasta mudras or hand gestures (bottom)
I don't think there's any more bias here other than how any editor feels their edit is an improvement. I would suggest that most people "experience" an airport by passing through it, and so interior pictures can be illustrative and encyclopedic. Having said that, the text doesn't mention the sculptures or interior architecture except for a few airport features (check-ins, duty-free shops, etc.). As for layout, the vertical aspect ratio of the new picture does push things a bit, with the other two sculpture pictures extending well into the following sections (as rendered on my browser).
In some ways I feel the older picture, File:Statue_of_The_Sun_God.JPG, is better as it gives a wide shot of the concourse and an overall picture of the interior and the statue's prominence. However, I understand that that picture is several years old and may not accurately represent the terminal as it is today.
I would suggest either picking one picture of a sculpture for the section, or to put 2–3 in a {{multiple image}} template (as I have attempted to the right). The multiple image also lets us combine captions for the related images to help save space. It might balance better if the second picture were cropped to get rid of the advertisement. The third picture gives a pretty good wide view of what I assume is the check-in.
Third opinions are non-binding, but I hope this helps. – Reidgreg (talk) 17:21, 26 April 2019 (UTC)
Your solution is much more elegant than mine. I've uploaded a rough cropped and rotated version of the second picture, though we could also crop the barriers on the sides off if you think. ─ ReconditeRodent « talk · contribs » 19:17, 26 April 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for your comments, ReconditeRodent and Reidgreg. I think both solutions are good, but Reidgreg's recommendation is ideal in this situation. I'm also not opposed to re-using the old picture of the sculpture, but it seemed blurry to me at the time I saw it, which is why I made it a point to take a new picture when I passed by the airport. — Nearly Headless Nick {c} 19:39, 26 April 2019 (UTC)
Looks good! Thanks for the rotate, I was feeling seasick! And thanks for donating the new picture; I'm not really a picture person but it's always good to have updates and options. If you can confirm, the last part of the caption might be expanded as something like "hasta mudras or hand gestures over the check-in counters (bottom)" since that picture shows more than the sculpture. – Reidgreg (talk) 14:08, 27 April 2019 (UTC)
Thanks, again, Reidgreg. I have implemented the changes in the article in accordance with the consensus that has emerged on the talk page. — Nearly Headless Nick {c} 06:55, 28 April 2019 (UTC)

Incorrect Top Destination; Domestic Section

In "top destination"; the domestic section reflects wrong order of the passenger movements between the pair of cities. Error in the order of cities. Kindly, scrutinise the data and bring them in correct order.

Excessively long descriptions of facilities

Please consider shortening FACILITIES ,as it is too long and not required, please list incidents of near misses (runway incursions etc) in ACCIDENTS AND INCIDENTS ,and moving information regarding 29/11 is provided in HISTORY.Please do not repeat same paragraphs in multiple sub topics. Thanks Ss270ss (talk) 17:25, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

Missing incidents

Some incidents that occurred are not present in the respective section ,please add such using websites that include details about such. For example, the incident in 2016 when two A320s came face to face on a runway. Please consider adding these as soon as possible. Thanks Ss270ss (talk) 17:31, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

Airlines deleted

I have noticed that most of the international passenger airlines and their destinations have been deleted from this page. Many airlines like British Airways, Qatar, Emirates are not there anymore. Only domestic airlines are present there anymore in the list. Can someone tell me why this has happened? No other airport articles in the world have that. Yellow alligator (talk)

Please help in restoring.. Vinrpm.p6054 (talk) 14:01, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Airlines and destinations

Please restore all destinations...looks like most are removed. Vinrpm.p6054 (talk) 14:01, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Adding to this, I don’t know why all of the airlines for Delhi and Mumbai airports were removed. Most of the routes are flying again (for example, I can go ahead and book a flight on United right now between Newark and Delhi) so I’d like to know why they were removed. No other airport page has done this. Unless there is a valid reason, they should be restored.v --VenFlyer98 (talk) 04:45, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
