Music of the Torres Strait Islands
If someone could add a section on this the article could be renamed to show it as more comprehensive Paul foord 11:21, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
- Agree that it would be better to have this article at something like Indigenous Australian music, to be in-line with the change to Indigenous Australians and facilitate inclusion of the above suggestion.--cjllw | TALK 04:04, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
Vandalism
I have no idea how this works, but someone has changed the page to just saying "HI" so I guess it needs to be reverted back to an earlier version. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.83.6.241 (talk) 01:13, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Barnt - what is it?
The term barnt is used without explanation - can't find reference to it elsewhere. Paul foord (talk) 01:13, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
Merging of country and indigenous music
I'm not sure that merging folk/country and indigenous music into a single article is such a good idea. Although there has recently been some blending of indigenous music with other styles (folk, country, rock etc) historically indigenous and European-based music were distinctly separate things. And even now, indigenous music is quite distinct from folk/country (eg John Williamson)
I've also raised this concern at Talk:Culture_of_Australia#Merging_of_folk_and_indigenous_music
Does anyone else have an opinion on this? Mitch Ames (talk) 01:47, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
- Separate articles required. These topics are too important and of distinct character to be merged in this way. Australian country in a sub-genre of country music but Australian indigenous music is a totally distinct form in its origins and sound.Ozhistory (talk) 02:31, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
- Comment there is also an article Australian folk music -- Paul foord (talk) 02:39, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
- I also see them as needing separate articles. I've also raised this concern at Australian Wikipedians' noticeboard -- Paul foord (talk) 02:39, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
- I've reverted the merger - it was certainly a bold move, but I think when merging two articles in this way we should seek consensus to make the merger first. - Bilby (talk) 04:41, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
Australian country music is predominantly non-Indigenous. Australian folk music has no significant Indigenous base AFAIK (happy to hear otherwise). The Indigenous Australian music article has significant coverage of traditional Indigenous music, that music is neither folk nor country music. The contemporary section of the Indigenous Australian music notes the development of Aboriginal rock and Indigenous country music. On this basis the articles should not be merged.
