Article vs list

[edit]

I know this is currently an article, but has anyone considered, at least in the articles current form, it probably should be a list? --Sabre ball t c 18:35, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Pit Stop Challenge

[edit]

I appreciate the change made by Doctorindy, but the rules were changed for 2012, and the section now reads like it has always been that way. Perhaps the old narrative should be restored and a note added about the changes that occurred in 2012. --jmbox (talk) 16:45, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Races during 1909 and 1910

[edit]

I undid some changes made by @Doctorindy so there could be further discussion on where/if the 1909 and 1910 race results are moved. The February 2024 deletion discussion reached the consensus that some content be moved to "more appropriate existing articles."

I do not believe the 1909 and 1910 AAA Championship Car season articles are a more appropriate place for these results.

Those pages were created to list the results of what officials, journalists, contestants and the public retroactively came to consider as Championship-level events. To be clear, there were no official points championships during 1909 or 1910. Standings and champions were created later, in the 1920s, by AAA officials as a revisionist exercise. That said, the races those officals chose shared the characteristic of being significant events, either due to their length, prestige or awarded prize. The retroactive lists have never to my knowledge undergone much, if any, revision. The Wikipedia articles reflect the lists created by the AAA in the 1920s, and then mistakenly publicized/misrepresented by Russ Catlin during the 1950s as having existed during the years in question.

The inclusion of the large lists of events run at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway significantly alters the character of those articles. Most were minor events, not run to what was later considered a championship-level. For the time being they seem better placed within the article titled Indianapolis Motor Speedway race results. Long term the 1909 and 1910 IMS race meet results may merit stand alone articles. RegalZ8790 (talk) 02:05, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
