Not making sense
[edit]How are none of the listed towns included? The paragraph after the list makes no sense, especially with Indianapolis in that list itself. --Eric 00:50, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
- I think it means that "the balance" is pre-consolidation Indianapolis plus pre-consolidated unincorporated area. The list I think is a list of all the officially-existing municipalities that are in the county consolidation; the Census measures Indianapolis as a whole, but it also measures the other consolidated municipalities (such as Rocky Ripple), and therefore it's only fair to measure the area that is in neither the excluded municipalities nor the non-original-Indianapolis included ones. The result of the proposal was move per request.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:48, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
Indianapolis (balance), Indiana → Indianapolis (balance) – The city article is at Indianapolis. There is no good reason to use a convoluted and contrived name for this article. older ≠ wiser 20:28, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- Comment but it isn't a type of balance to be disambiguated from Indianapolis, it is an undisambiguated term that needs clarification from standard Wikipedia practice of disambiguation using parenthetical forms... 70.49.124.225 (talk) 03:41, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I understand your point. The article is about an abstract statistical entity consisting of a portion of the city of Indianapolis. If per wikipedia conventions "Indiana" is unnecessary for to disambiguate the city of Indianapolis proper, why is it necessary for this subportion? We do not append Indiana to neighborhoods in the city. older ≠ wiser 12:36, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
- I mean that "Indianapolis (balance)" looks like "Indianapolis" with a disambiguator "balance", instead of "Indianapolis (balance)" as a single term. As you mention, portions of cities usually use the city as the qualifier, so this should probably be called Indianapolis (balance), Indianapolis. 70.49.124.225 (talk) 03:47, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- I still don't understand why Indianapolis (balance), Indianapolis would be any better. "(balance)" is a disambiguator of a sort. I don't see why it needs to be more complicated than that. older ≠ wiser 23:55, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- Comment. In the Census Bureau data tables, the subject is given as either Indianapolis city (balance) or as Indianapolis (city (balance)), Indiana. These two forms seem to be about equally official, and the first one certainly fits our style better. Kauffner (talk) 16:07, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
- Support. We don't need the more complicated form when the simpler one serves the purpose just as well or better.--Cúchullain t/c 17:55, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
