Are there any comparable sources to this one based on sales rather than translations? I am thinking of bestseller lists in order to compare it with lists of critical acclaim such as the Modern Library#Best_20th Century Novels --Jahsonic 21:44, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Walt Disney Productions is not an author

[edit]

I don't see why a production company should be counted as an author, none of the other names on the list are.

Correct. If we are including Corporations in the list then number 2,3,4 would be the various production companies that are commonly translated (pixar, lucas, etc.). Only authors (i.e. people) should be in this list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.108.203.115 (talk) 12:19, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, Pixar etc. do not appear in the list cited (that is, [1]), while Walt Disney Porductions does, and is the first one. This is the article about Index Translationum, and we cannot arbitrarily modify the data or the conventions of that Index. Happy editing, Goochelaar (talk) 12:35, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article cleanup

[edit]

I've modified the article to:

1) Include the most current statistics as of April 2008

2) Reflect the Discussion observation that Walt Disney is not an author, but an anomoly of the way the Index files authorship. (Note there are other such issues, such as giving the two Grimm brothers, who usually wrote together, two separate entries at 11th and 12th place.)

3) Remove questionable and uncited statement that publishers and booksellers were responsible for translations since the advent of the printing press

4) Remove fluff language such as "first systematic", "true cumulative", "began to take shape", "best available proxy".
