Infobox template

[edit]

The article needs an infobox now like the other ones have. I can't seem to find the one for IOs, does this mean we need to make one? Wesley Mouse 01:04, 24 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Read my mind! It's there now. Had to monkey with things to display multiple codes, but this should work. If not, I'll bug the resident template genius (Andrwsc). -- Jonel (Speak to me) 01:15, 24 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Lookin' goooooood! And on that note, may I go to bed now? I'm on Olympic Games Maker Duties at 9am (7 hours from now). I'm one of those who can't sleep until I know things are ticking smoothly. Wesley Mouse 01:17, 24 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'll try not to break any of the 1928 results pages in the next few hours! -- Jonel (Speak to me) 01:24, 24 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Macedonia

[edit]

Erm, on the 1992 section of the article it has referenced Macedonia as "Republic of Macedonia". Isn't that going against WP:NCMAC? I was always lead to believe that FYR, FYROM, Republic of... wasn't suppose to be used unless the article also mentioned other Macedonia's, or if it was the main article for the Republic of Macedonia itself. Shouldn't the name be changed in accordance to the naming convention rule? Wesley Mouse 17:45, 24 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm no expert on NCMAC, and just pulled the naming from the 1992 IOP article. I see there that someone went through for NCMAC and left the lead as Republic of Macedonia ([1]). I'd say that because it deals with the period right around the breakup of Yugoslavia, it may be useful to identify it disambiguating from, e.g., Socialist Republic of Macedonia. That being said, I don't particularly care either way, if folks have a different interpretation of the naming convention. -- Jonel (Speak to me) 12:03, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thankfully I do have some experiences with NCMAC through working with WikiProject Eurovision. And I can say that several editors on Wikipedia have received 1RR restrictions impeded on them for violating NCMAC for using the terms FYR Macedonia, FYROM, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, or Republic of Macedonia. As far as I understand it, on article for competition events such as Eurovision Song Contest, FIFA World Cup, UEFA European Championships, the nation is suppose to be referred to as Macedonia. So on that basis one would assume the same NCMAC guideline would apply for article of the Olympic Games. Wesley Mouse 08:28, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Team Refugee Olympic Athletes

[edit]

For now, I've included this team under this page and have redirected article titles here. I think it's likely that they will compete under the IOC code 'ROA', as a separate entity from previous Independent athletes - at this point, it will probably be appropriate to split the material out, but let's hold it here for now. Independent Olympians 2016

[edit]

Hi @Super Nintendo Chalmers: where you the one that deleted the Independent 2016 article and brought the content here? If so I think it totally makes sense. But I did put allot of recent work into the Independent 2016 so it would have been great if you notified me about what you where planning to do. And also posted something here about the big change. I would like that next time and I think others would do. But again I agree that it was the right thing to do. Rybkovich (talk) 17:20, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Difference between IOP and IOA

[edit]

Hello, I don't understand the difference between the Independent Olympic Participants (1992, 2014) and the Independent Olympic Athletes (2000, 2012, 2016). --190.99.101.24 (talk) 19:32, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox medal totals

[edit]

Is there any way to hide the medal totals? If not, we could use a different template to show the same info, minus the medal totals.--SaskatchewanSenator (talk) 19:29, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't make sense to add up the medals of the Yugoslav, Kuwaiti and Russian athletes in the infobox--SaskatchewanSenator (talk) 19:32, 22 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

IOP, IOA, OAR

[edit]

Sorces don't group IOP, IOA and OAR as a single entity. On the contrary, the Olympedia considers OAR and ROC as a single entity (See: Olimpedia, ROC) and the Olympanalyt considers them in the same way (See: Olympanalyt, OAR/ROC). As for IOP and IOA, Olympedia group them as a single entity (See: Olimpedia, IOA), while Olympanalyt considers IOP and IOA as a different entities (See: Olympanalyt, IOP and Olympanalyt, IOA). Anyway, no source mixes OAR together with IOA and IOP. So we shouldn't mix them in this article either. Based on this, I made the following edits to the article:

Nitobus (talk) 10:46, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly disagree with this move, and have reverted it; we should not be changing our content based on a few -pedias who have decided they want to sort things differently. Primefac (talk) 09:46, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
agreed. We don't see them as single entities, but group them as a group of non-nationals competing under the Olympic flag, that for some reasons have been given different names over time... L.tak (talk) 11:30, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion on Russian and Belarus nationalities as independent athletes

[edit]

There is an ongoing discussion that could affect this article. It is concerning Russian and Belarus nationalities and flag icons on some Olympic-related articles. Please join in the discussion at WikiProject Olympics to help sort things out. Thanks. Fyunck(click) (talk) 06:31, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How many stats tables to add

[edit]

There has been a slow-burning (like... years long) edit war to add and remove the medal tables related to the Russian athletes. I'm honestly not sure which variant is "better", and I can see arguments for doing both, but in lack of a solid consensus seeming to exist, I figured I would ask the question. Should we include the medal tables for the various Russian-related teams that have competed over the last decade? If not, should we also remove medal tables from teams like the 1992 Olympics? I will note that each year has its own page, so no information would be lost if the consensus is to remove all tables. Primefac (talk) 12:18, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not a good idea to ask a consensus under an article talk page... I didn't undestand where do you want add or remove the medal tables related to the Russian athletes? Doesn't even seem to affect this page. Pelmeen10 (talk) 18:32, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not a good idea... where else would I ask a question about consensus on an article? People have been adding and removing the tables in #2020 Summer Olympics and the subsequent sections pretty much since they were added, with the argument for being they are independent athletes and the argument against being that they're technically still Russian athletes simply running under a "generic" name because of sanctions.
