Independent Greeks Right-wing to Radical Right

[edit]

Why do people keep removing my reference about this party being Radical Right.

Ultra right is used in the source i provided but it can be considered radical right or far-right but i think that far-right is a bit harsh for ANEL so i recommend using radical right also ultra-right doesn't have it's own wikipedia page and just redirects to far-right so don't use that. Radical Right is a term mainly used in America but that doesn't mean it can't be used to describe a non-american party. TURTLOS (talk) 22:57, 6 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ultra and radical have different meanings and different implications. If a stronger description than "right wing" is needed (and I am not completely convinced it is), the term used in the source should be used. As the term is commonly used, far-right is a harsh and inaccurate description for the party. Still, since the article on "far-right" is written from more of an international perspective than "radical right" is, I think "far-right" is a more appropriate article to link to. Nevertheless, I would be fine with linking to "Radical right" as long as Ultra-right is the term that is displayed.--Tdl1060 (talk) 02:44, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think thats sounds reasonable enough. TURTLOS (talk) 04:28, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As some sources describe Anel as centre-right, I think it would be best to keep just the right-wing label, as "right-wing" seems to be the most common descriptor and the middle one of the three (if we assume a linear political spectrum: centre — centre-right — right-wing — far-right). Moreover, in a broad sense "right-wing" may stretch from centre-right to far-right. --RJFF (talk) 20:19, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with RJFF.--Autospark (talk) 21:37, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"Xenophobic", "homophobic"?

[edit]

This article unfortunately contains a citation to an article that quotes the opinion of Roman Gerodimos, a political analyst, who labels the policies of the Independent Greeks "homophobic" and "xenophobic". The citation reflects the subjective opinion of one person and does not help clarify the Independent Greeks' political positions. "Homophobic" and "xenophobic" are subjective terms. The article should focus on facts; for example, the statement immediately proceeding reads

On social policy, Independent Greeks oppose multiculturalism and want to reduce immigration,[21][22][23] and support development of a Christian Orthodox oriented education system.

This is a statement of fact, and should be included. If there is consensus for removing the Gerodimos citation I will do it. Foreignshore (talk) 21:58, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Removed citation since there has been no discussion on this in ten months. Foreignshore (talk) 21:35, 25 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Below is the citation in question

Roman Gerodimos, a specialist on Greek politics, says the party has a record of xenophobic and homophobic policies.[1] [dubiousdiscuss]

I do not see the prob since it was clearly explained that this is the opinion of one specialist, not a generally accepted fact. I believe it should be brought in some improved form (better phrasing, additional sources, discuss specific policies).Greece666 (talk) 20:19, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I took a look, and there are plenty of good sources making similar claims.

Right wing or big tent

[edit]

Firs of all I think that the part itself never refered as right wing. It was a movement that started from the internet among greek citizents that opposed the policies of the previous goverments. The party had as ideology poicies like national conservatism, patriotism and soft euroscepticism but it was not exactly a right-wing party: it collaborated twice with left-wing Syriza and supported their socialist economic policies (I don't mean that Ind.Greeks were socialists but that make them no-right-wing). So I suppose to replace the ideology from right-wing to big tent, the party actually is similar with United Russia at Russia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.103.147.144 (talk) 16:37, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
