emissions discussion is strongly biased in favor of incineration

I think the major problem is that the incineration emissions are largely dependent on installation of specific emission control units. In the U.S., there are currently small scale municipal waste incineration plants being proposed that are advertized as not requiring emission controls, and thus this discussion is very misleading regarding incineration per se. The most egregious is the citing of the early Lemieux research comparing the dioxin output of a MSW plant to one family burn barrel. This is off by at least 3 orders of magnitude, and should be removed entirely. I've left it, but adding the more recent research by the same authors in which the high variability of burn barrel dioxin/furan outputs is investigated.

I think the truth would be better served by requiring that all emission discussions are required to provide the specific emission controls that lead to the magnitudes presented. This would mitigate the false impression that municipal waste incineration is inherently clean rather than a result of the use of control technology that may or may not be used. Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Incineration. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Conversions of incinerators

Can a section be added regarding the conversion of regular incinerators to waste recovering incincerators ? This would imply addition of electro filter, active carbon and potassium filter, quench, HCL-washer, SO2-washer, bottom ash-mesh

Response:

I can't make sense of your suggestion; regular WtE plants (incinerators) of today include the technologies you describe or other technologies with equivalent functions. At least in developed countries. Only, I never heard of a potassium filter. How and why should these plants recover waste? Their purpose is to recover energy, separate out metals for recycling and preparing the ash for reuse. Waste is an input, not a desired output.

Just removed a recently added paragraph on other technologies in the technology introduction, which are not part of incineration technology.

Also removed some recently added introductory sections with peculiar claims on the flue gas treatment system. Included false claims that toxins were generated (not removed) in the flue gas treatment system, and that toxins (generally) could not be destroyed, but had to be emitted. Please place POV claims in the "arguments against" section, and make sure that e.g. they do not claim things about "toxins" in general, which may only be applicable to a few specific compounds.
