Beylik of İnalInalids – per WP:COMMONNAME & WP:USEENGLISH

Takabeg (talk) 05:34, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose:-id ending is common to dynasties. But in Wikipedia the root name is preferred rather than the -id ending. Ottoman Empire instead of Ottomanids, Seljuk dynasty instead of Seljukids, Karamanoğlu instead of Karamanids, Aydınoğlu instead of Aydınids. Thus for the sake of standardisation, İnal must be preferred. If desired İnalids may be created as a redirect article. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 10:04, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
We can find many samples of -id ending.

-ids:

-id + dynasty:

-id + Khanate:

-id + Caliphate:

Can you show us the basis for your claim ?

We can call it "Inalid principality" (1 results). But Inalids is more common. And "Inal" is wrong name for this article, because Inal (reign: 1096?-1098?) is the name of founder of the Inalids.

Karamanids, Aydınids etc.... are common names in English language, and Seljukids / Seljuqids are used in English books. But Ottomanids (1 results) is not common. Takabeg (talk) 11:32, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment As pointed out in the previous talk, -id ending refers to dynasties. In this smaii article the emphasis is on the state rather than the dynasty. The dynasty members are given only in the Beys section. Thus the title Baylik of Inal is more realistic than Inalids. If desired the section Beys may be changed to Inalids. Beylik of İnalInalids – per WP:COMMONNAME & WP:USEENGLISH

Takabeg (talk) 01:55, 28 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Same as Comment above - Not sure as pointed out in which previous talk since there have been a few RMs to dynasties in the Category:Anatolian beyliks, but yes -id ending refers to dynasties, here Inalids, the actuals beys not the beylik. Last time Nedim Ardoğa already suggesting renaming the Beys section. But it is a mess here. The lede probably should read "Beylik of the sons of Inal", it wouldn't be terrible to move the title to Inalids, which is more common and simpler, but it messes a bit with category. As other renames in the category have done. No criticism intended, this is a difficult one to call. In ictu oculi (talk) 07:38, 28 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Actually there is no big difference between the present title and the suggested title. But whereas İnalid referes to the ruling family, Beylik of İnal it refers to the family and the type of monarchy at the same time. Thus it is a wider concept and the present name should be kept.(By the way, which is a better title ? Kingdom of England or Tudorids ?) Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 14:01, 28 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
