GA Reassessment
[edit]Article (edit | visual edit | history) · Article talk (edit | history) · Watch
This article appears to have several issues that need to be resolved to meet the GA criteria.
- the orange cleanup banner atop the article needs to be addressed
- the citation needed tags throughout the article need to be addressed
- tweaking to avoid peacock language, such as in " this most famous of the Jahili (pre-Islamic) poets" or "To this day Imru' al-Qays remains the best-known of the pre-Islamic poets, and has been a source of literary and national inspiration for Arabic intellectuals all the way into the 20th century"
- "who was the greatest of all the Kindite kings" -- as an opinion, needs sourcing
- some copyediting appears needed, as here
- It's a dead link now, but was http://www.almoallaqat.com/poetDetails.do?poetId=1 ever a reliable source? The home page [1] doesn't look promising.
- The site appears to be defunct now. When the article was composed, it had full text of all 7 poems, plus audio files of recitation, plus bios on poets (all in Arabic). Maitham d (talk) 15:19, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
- Well, remember, the important point is not what it had, but who published it-- i.e., if it was a reliable publisher with a reputation for fact-checking. Seems to be a moot point now, though. -- Khazar2 (talk) 00:29, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
I'll ping the original nominator and reviewer, and give this a week for the issues above to be addressed. Thanks to everybody who's worked on this one! -- Khazar2 (talk) 13:20, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
Hello, Khazar2. Can you please postpone the GA review period so that it begins after 9 July, 2013? That is the day of my last preliminary exam for my doctoral program. Right now I am in crunch-time study mode and will not have sufficient time to work on the article until then.
I've had a look at the page and the issues you mentioned, and I think I will be able to address all of them. I no longer have access to the books I used for the original article (they are in a library in a city I've since moved away from), and one of my best web sources (almoallaqat.com) appears to be defunct, but it looks like Britannica has good information and I should be able to find some other sources.
Thanks for the recommendations and thank you, too, for your understanding! Maitham d (talk) 15:35, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
- Sure, that's no problem. I'll check in again on July 14th or so; that way you can have a breather after your exams. I do think the article needs delisting in its current state, but it's sat this way for a year already; a few more weeks will do no harm, and I'd be glad to help improve it back up to GA. Again, good luck in the exams! -- Khazar2 (talk) 18:01, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
- Since July 14 has come and gone without any apparent progress or update, I'm delisting this for now. It appears that a substantial rewrite will be needed to meet the GA criteria, so it's probably better that this happen outside the time pressure of a GA reassessment. I hope you'll still consider rewriting this one, though, and renominating it once the cleanup issues have been addressed. Thanks for your work! I hope the exams went well, -- Khazar2 (talk) 00:29, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
