This entry and "Immigration Law" are almost completely redundant. They both refer to the same mechanism sovereign governments use to control immigration. Consider the definitions provided: "Immigration law refers to national government policies which control the phenomenon of immigration to their country" v. "Immigration regulation is the control of the people, and their numbers, who may enter a nation's sovereign territory." The same concept expressed in different words.

"Immigration Regulation" should be deleted, leaving the more detailed entry on Immigration Law to cover the topic.

New ideas for this page

[edit]

I am a student at Rice University studying poverty, justice, and human capabilities. For one of my classes we are supposed to find a topic on Wikipedia that we are interested in and expand or edit it. I have chosen to work on this page, Immigration regulation. My ideas for this page include changing the name to Immigration Policy then I would like to create a sub-section titled Immigration policy in the United States. Then within this sub-section, I will give information on the two sided debate going on in the US - should the borders be open or closed? I will give the benefits and disadvantages of each side and the political parties or important figures with these opinions. I also want to include a part that compares the policies of the United States to surrounding countries such as Canada and Mexico and I also want to compare the US policies with a country like Denmark. I feel like this is a very important issue that needs to be expanded on because immigrants make up such a large part of the United States' population. I feel like right now is a crucial time to work on it with the United States elections coming up. Also, the current page needs to be cited, so I will also work on that.
