Illapu is the Gipsy Kings of Andean Music. They perfectly blend traditional and even ancient South American instruments such as charango, quena, zampoña, classical guitar, cuatro, cajón and bombo with modern instruments such as saxophone, piano, drums, orchestral strings, percussion and rhythm programming. Several band members are brothers and the vocal blend at times absolutely shimmers. The very best Chile has to offer musically. If I was buying my first Illapu CD, I would purchase "En Estos Días," just for starters.
