Carr Lane
[edit]The Carr Lane station is in Lancashire. That seems strange. JHJPDJKDKHI! 19:47, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- Well-spotted. Now removed. Someone copied the table from The Garstang and Knott End Railway, and Carr Lane is (was) on that line. :I have also changed the sub-title 'Principal stations' to 'Stations', as I'm not aware that there were any others not already listed!
- Not sure if both 'Quay' and 'Town' stations should appear on the list, but then I'm not really sure that the list needs to be there in the first place...!

- The list mentioned has since been superseded by the Route Map. -- EdJogg 23:22, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
The Line today pictures.
[edit]It's a shame we don't have pictures of the line before 'today' under a free licence or in the public domain. I'm not sure whether it was right for me to put those images where I did. They don't seem to fit anyway, so I will probably remove them and maybe try to add them to the section on the line today at the bottom. JHJPDJKDKHI! 09:17, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- I don't see why you say they 'don't fit'. OK, so the section text has not been expanded fully yet (I've been working on non-Wiki projects recently!) but the pictures help illustrate it. Somewhere I have a picture of the outside of the tunnel, which I planned to include, but I haven't found it yet. EdJogg 08:43, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Ed, there is this one on geograph. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/42683 JHJPDJKDKHI! 09:18, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Hee hee - mine's better (two visible portals, no trees - if only I knew where it was...!) But thanks for pointing out 'geograph' - looks like somewhere else I'll have to start contributing... --- EdJogg 10:24, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
Information required...

History
[edit]- Does not mention 're-birth' as Tarka Trail. When did this take place?
- Should mention return of rolling stock to the line, at 'Once Upon a Time'. We have a closure date (unref'd?), but when did it open? Ultimately, closure date should be for when the rolling stock was removed (assuming the station is going to be / has been redeveloped for housing) since the closure date for the attraction itself can be mentioned in the station section.

Style
[edit]I am a bit uneasy about the phraseology in places; I hope no-one will be offended if I try to streamline it a bit.
Also "'Named' trains like the Atlantic Coast Express and the Devon Belle both started and terminated at Ilfracombe." What other 'named' trains did then? And "most certainly the fiercest climb" risks starting futile arguments; maybe a more descriptive explanation ... ? --Afterbrunel (talk) 11:38, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- Oooooo, it's probably my phraseology. This was one of my first new pages and is still supposedly at the head of my ToDo list for article developments... Most of my time is spent fixing other people's edits :o(
- Re: 'Named trains...':
- Is there actually a problem with this statement? The two trains mentioned are the famous ones, but I'm sure others may have run during the line's history, even if only in the run-up to closure.
- Re: 'fiercest climb':
- Maybe 'fiercest' is not wholly appropriate for an encyclopaedia, but it does (to me!) convey the effort required of engines and crews when setting off from Ilfracombe. I remember reading that it was something along the lines of "the steepest starting climb [in the UK] from a terminus on a two-track line", but I haven't yet found where I read it in order to provide a cite. (Bother!)

Personal observations on site
[edit]There are rather a lot of statements that such-and-such is in use as something now. Personally I don't object too much to observational original research as long as it is moderate and not too improbable. But I do worry about a statement that "the former goods shed is now in use as J Bloggs & Co Ltd's workshop". This might have been true on the day someone went and looked (Mr Jogg in 2006, perhaps?) but might be untrue six months later when Bloggs & Co had a block of flats built there. And 16 years is a long time lapse. Afterbrunel (talk) 13:38, 5 September 2022 (UTC)
