Barbara Thomas Judge
[edit]Is Sir Igor the husband of Lady Barbara Thomas Judge? If he is, she is presumably not "Lady Barbara" but "Lady Judge", but on the other hand perhaps she is the daughter of a duke, a marquess, or an earl. I have seen her referred to as "The Hon Barbara Thomas Judge", which might suggest that her father was a courtesy viscount or baron who has now succeeded to a dukedom, marquessate, or earldom. However, I do not know of any peers of those ranks with the surname Thomas (which I take to be her maiden name). I am guessing that the style, "The Hon" pertains to her former post in the US.--195.92.67.75 19:02, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
I believe she is actually the wife of Sir Paul Judge. Still she is Lady Judge or The Hon Barbara Thomas. Probably best rendered as The Hon. Barbara Thomas (Lady Judge)--Westminsterboy 15:22, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Type of peerage
[edit]In the List of Barons and Baronesses for life in the Peerage of the United Kingdom his peerage is lsited under the Life Peerages Act 1958 and not the Appellate Jurisdiction Act 1876, dosen`t he have a law life peerage ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.242.236.114 (talk) 23:05, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
His Judicial Appointment is under the AJA 1876 but that would have also made him an hereditary Peer and the mechanism of the LPA 1958 was to stop creating hereditary Peerages, so that the 1958 legislation gave him only his personal peerage which is a Barony. (There has only been one exception - Harold Macmillan was created an Earl (Stockton) in the 1980s). Tony S21:53, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
The real question
[edit]The important thing we're all wanting to know is, was he ever Judge Judge? 82.110.248.146 (talk) 15:00, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
- Sadly, no.Terwilliger (talk) 10:33, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- Indeed not. It seems he became a Recorder (and would have been referred to as Mr Recorder Judge) and then a High Court Judge, as Mr Justice Judge. He does not seem to have been a Circuit or District Judge at any point, and so was never Judge Judge. If he had been, I'm sure it would have been well reported at the time!
