Is she an Ashkenazi or Sephardic Jew?
Not that this is important for any reason other than trivia. But I'd be curious to know if she is Ashkenazi or Sephardi? She has a fairly dark complexion. Not that a dark complexion is always an indicator one way or another. Just curious.--Dr who1975 (talk) 17:24, 6 April 2014 (UTC)
- Her family is Ashkenazi, from Eastern Europe. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 19:28, 6 April 2014 (UTC)
Birth Name
Idina Menzel's real name is "Idina Kim Mentzel." (IMDB used to have it wrong, saying it was Adena, but they have since corrected it.) She did change her last name, but did not change her first name. (In reality, "Idina" is actually mis-pronounced more, so why change her first name to a name that's harder to pronounce?)--Conor 21:47, 7 December 2005 (UTC) You'd have to ask her, but she was named after her grandmother, Ida. Stephenpace 15:52, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
Not to mention that it's on her website. RECblue8 18:46, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
What is this; this is hilarious
"Shining stars that glows with hope for the new generation"? This is first class stuff.
I hear you. I'm as big of an Idina fan as anyone, but this article is now violating Wikipedia house style for a biography. Way too much POV. Stephenpace 20:06, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
Peter C.
Phrases like, "and for her extremely powerful, belting voice." can be all perspective. I've seen her in all her shows, and I agree she's incredible, but one has to be objective on the voice quality--i.e. not everyone loved Daphne Rubin Vegas voice.
The phrase "extremely powerful, belting voice" is descriptive, not evaluative. Such a phrase could be used either in a complimentary or derragatory manner; hence it is not POV. Robertllr 20:17, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- Use of the word 'extremely' in this context was wrong. Ethel Merman's voice was an 'extreme', Idina's is not. I rephrased the point.PKT 20:48, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
“She also made an appearance in the movie Camp, in which legendary Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim also made a cameo.” This sentence is worded incorrectly. It makes it sound, as Idina is being compared and exulted to Sodhiem’s level with his importance.
Not at all. Although the use of the tag "legendary" adds no substantive imformation and should be edited out, the writer is not ipso facto comparing Menzel to Sondheim by juxtaposing their names. (For one thing, it would be a pointless comparison, as Sondheim is a composer and Menzel is a singer.) Nor does the juxtaposition of the two names suggest equality of reknown. It only suggests that the aforementioned film was of significance since another notable professional appeared in it. This is not POV wtiting, either.
I have read the Menzel article and I suggest the POV disputes above are trivial and based on the dissenters' poor understanding of the nature of rhetoric and advocacy. (The controversy over the T in her original name can be easily dealt with by noting that there is some uncertainty over its orignal spelling.)Robertllr 20:17, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Ray Charles
Singer Ray Charles invited Menzel to be among an elite group of his favorite contemporary artists to duet with him on one of the tracks of Charles' album Genius & Friends.
- Wouldn't "Singer Ray Charles invited Menzel to duet with him . . . ." do just as well? The invitation speaks for itself and does not need to be interpreted. ForDorothy 17:58, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Sammy Davis Jr.
While the two currently have no children, they do have a pet dog named Sammy Davis Jr..
- I believe that this comes under the heading of too much information. A pet dog's name? And that name linked to its namesake's article? If you drop the mention of the dog (as I intend to), you're left with The two currently have no children—not an observation one reports. ForDorothy 00:26, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Jewish-American Actress?
- The first line of this article read, "Idina Menzel is a Jewish-American actress..." and I wondered why it seemed necessary to identify Ms. Menzel's religion/ethnicity/background so early in the article (or at all). I checked the articles of other female Broadway stars - Kristin Chenoweth, Marin Mazzie, Barbra Streisand, to name a few - and there's no identification of this sort in any of them. So I removed it. It's not relevant. Seduisant 17:38, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
Biography?
How long has it been since most of her biography was replaced with guitar tabs?! Does anybody have the original text, or know how to get it back? This is ridiculous. Achin4aiken15 03:46, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
I reverted it; the entire 'career' section had also been deleted. Achin4aiken15 13:05, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Idinamenhere.jpg
Image:Idinamenhere.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 09:07, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Enchanted
One thing. She was in one more role than what was mentioned. She played that person in Enchanted, the one who was dating Robert. Cooliogal2495 (talk) 22:44, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Photo
I know there are issues as far as fair usage, but could someone get a better photo maybe? I mean, a mediocre one is better than none, but it would be great if we could get maybe a professional photograph, etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.137.176.179 (talk) 03:16, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
A better photo!
Please, a better photo for Idina, this photo is so so so bad :S —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.165.75.234 (talk) 15:30, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Wicked in 2011
Has Wicked actually been confirmed for 2011, and more importantly, has Idina been confirmed as part of the cast? Citation needed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.52.163.69 (talk) 03:06, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
"Of note, in an earlier episode, Rachel had performed "Defying Gravity", the Wicked song that Menzel made famous."
This is arguable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.252.163.190 (talk) 02:32, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Glee
Article references Poker Face and I Dreamed a Dream duets with Lea Michele, but ignores her solo on the show, Funny Girl. 12.162.122.5 (talk) 17:16, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
Husband's name not appearing
For some reason, I can't see Taye Diggs name in the Background Information section. Amathenge (talk) 02:25, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
Yup I don't know how to fix it either. I updated it to reflect their recent divorce, but it still won't show up. JamesZhou13 (talk) 02:48, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
- The article does not currently have a cite for a divorce, so I reverted that. As for the spouse parameter not showing, it's because there is not a spouse parameter in Infobox_musical_artist (for discussion, see Template_talk:Infobox_musical_artist/Archive_9#Spouse.2C_partner_and_children). Personally, I think this is fairly absurd as people expect to see the information in the infobox. Perhaps a new topic should be opened at Template_talk:Infobox_musical_artist. - SummerPhD (talk) 03:16, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
Travolta's mistake
Adele Dazeem incident should be addressed in the article, now that even her latest Broadway musical "If/Then" is getting in on the act. https://twitter.com/janetkrupin/status/440931045274583040/photo/1 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.38.247.160 (talk • contribs) 05:07, March 5, 2014

Include John Travolta's mispronunciation! It's become quite a big thing and even a Broadway play misspelled her name following the mistake. THK1138 (talk) 20:00, 7 March 2014 (UTC)

Birthplace
We cite Biography.com for Menzel's birthdate. It gives Syosset as her her birthplace. The Daily News gives Queens. Between the Daily News and Biography.com we have two equally reliable sources. Picking your favorite of the two is POV. And ee can't say, "Oh, we'll accept Biography.com for her birthdate but not her birthplace" unless we have overwhelming WP:RS evidence otherwise.
Additionally, AllMusic.com says Queens, Internet Broadway Database says Syosset. --Tenebrae (talk) 21:26, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
Info box-- date of marriage 2014 vs 2015
The info box says her marriage to Taye Diggs was from 2003-2015, though the Personal Life section of both her page and Digg's says the divorce was finalized in December 2014. Is this a typo? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.54.28.137 (talk) 18:36, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
