Talk:Icterid
Icteridae, Icterid, New World blackbird
[edit]I am confused. Are the terms Icterid and New World blackbird synonymous? If so, I think the New World blackbird article should be merged into this one and it should be re-named Icteridae. Opinions?--Brambleshire (talk) 20:53, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- Never mind the previous question. Please see my new question on the Talk:New World blackbird page.--Brambleshire (talk) 13:43, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Bobolink subspecies
[edit]Does anyone know if D. o. oryzivorus and D. o. albinucha are widely accepted as valid bobolink subspecies? If so, it should be included in that article. --Pablo.ea.92 (talk) 03:56, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
Yellow-breasted chat
[edit]I am the author of the article about Dolichonyx oryzivorus in the Spanish Wikipedia and I found a paper that said that the bobolink, an icterid, is closely related to the yellow-breasted chat. When I wrote that in the article’s taxonomy section, it aroused some controversy due to the fact that the yellow-breasted chat was originally classified as a parulid. Then I resorted to the article in English about this bird to learn more about its taxonomy and it suggested that its classification as a parulid is obsolete. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about its current classification. Has anyone heard or read anything about its phylogenetic links with Icteridae? If you happen to know any free-access paper available in the internet about this matter, I’d appreciate you let mi know in my talk. Thank you! --Pablo.ea.92 (talk) 11:04, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
Rename
[edit]This article should be named for the family Icteridae, a scientific term, not a common name. "Icterid" should redirect to the family name. Nickrz (talk) 14:03, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Number of genera and species
[edit]In the German Wikipedia entry, the number of genera is named as 31 and the number of species is named as 112, quoting: " David W. Winkler, Shawn M. Billerman, Irby J. Lovette: Bird Families of the World: A Guide to the Spectacular Diversity of Birds. Lynx Edicions (2015), ISBN 978-8494189203, S. 538 u. 539". I don't have that book, but is the exact number still a matter of debate among experts, or is one of the pages just unquestionably plain wrong? 2003:D0:1713:8F0F:C9D5:5310:5CB3:682A (talk) 10:06, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
