New Article
[edit]I set up this article because, while the article that covers the film is good, there is still quite a bit of information that is left out. I'd like to add more information about characters and elaborate more on the duality between reality and dreams that is brought up in the book. Additionally, the manga series provides a different ending than the movie as well as a deeper secret behind Ichi's actions that need to be addressed.
Additionally, this series was never published in America and it has been known for being extremely controversial and too graphic even for areas in Japan, so I thought this new article would be a great place to provide more info on a rather unknown series. Rearranging and revamping this article
[edit]Hey all. I'm interested in making this article more organized and improving it. Here's how I envision it:
- A shorter lead-in, with extra information moved to relevant sections.
- A "Setting" section. Shinjuku and the Yakuza mansion are central to the manga and are referred to many times.
- The volume summaries moved to a separate article. (which would be improved separately)
- A "Media" section with three subsections: a movie subsection briefly mentioning and linking to the two movies. A manga subsection linking to the summaries and talking about the main manga + it's prequel. And a subsection for the OVA.
- A "Controversy" section. As Kegofham mentioned, the manga was so graphic it was banned in some locations. I can't read Japanese so I might have trouble with this one. Depending on how much info can be found on this, it might just be rolled into the reception section.(?)
- A "Reception" section. I'd need help with this one as I haven't been good at searching for reliable manga sources and the movie eclipses the manga in searches.
- Citations.
Anyway just wanted to put that out there as it would be a pretty drastic change to the page and I thought it would be good to bring it up. I'm also a fairly new to Wikipedia so I'd love to hear from you guys. Is it a good idea? Do you have any suggestions? Help would be appreciated of course!

- Well, I encourage you to do so as one of the principles of Wikipedia is to be bold. Before editing, the only things you must to know is the general manual of style and the specific one for A&M. For sources, you can take a look at WP:A&M/ORS for a hint. I'm not well versed on the series but I'm willing to help on technical aspects of the article if you want to. - Thanks for the links and encouragement! Ill be sure to check those out. And I think I have it figured out, but I'll let you know. I'll start with creating the volumes page in my userspace. Opencooper (talk) 12:05, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Ichi the Killer (manga) → Ichi the Killer – The manga is the original work and the only other article with the same title is its film adaptation. We don't have manga articles that have articles of their adaptations, like One Piece, Rurouni Kenshin or Fullmetal Alchemist, indicating that they are manga in the title and there's no reason why Ichi the Killer should be different. - Xexerss (talk) 17:16, 1 March 2022 (UTC) Xexerss (talk) 17:16, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
- Contesting: This is not completely uncontroversial and should be discussed. The number of page views for the film is more than twice that for the manga, so the manga should probably not be at the base name. The film is more than 20 years old, so its popularity is not just WP:RECENTISM (and the film is not dramatically older). — BarrelProof (talk) 17:42, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
- @BarrelProof: That's a good reasoning, but I wonder if the number of page views has precisely something to do with the fact that the film is the first result on the search bar (at least in Wikipedia) and it's not just a matter of popularity. I could be wrong anyway. - Xexerss (talk) 19:18, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
- I used to think similarly, but I have since learned that the rank order of search listings and whether a topic occupies a base name or not has less of an effect on page views than what one might expect. — BarrelProof (talk) 23:54, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

- @Xexerss and BarrelProof: Pinging for the opened contested request discussion. -2pou (talk) 18:57, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). 2pou (talk) 18:56, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose. If anything, the film is primary. But best to keep as a dabpage. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:46, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
