1962 by-elections
[edit]I have just removed from the article the following sentence:
- "Gilmour contested the Hounslow West by-election, 1962"
I can find no such by-election listed in the List of United Kingdom by-elections (1950 - 1979), or on the British Parliamentary by-elections site (the latter sit lists all candidates at all by-elections, and the only Gilmour listed for 1962 is in the Central Norfolk by-election).
I can't find any constituency called Hounslow, or any other by-election in a constituency with a similar-sounding name, so I have asumed that this entry was some sort of mistake. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 21:45, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hounslow Wesr is definitely there! Its in Middlesex, and was for many years the London underground stop for Heathrow Airport.David Lauder 20:47, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- He was always referred to as Sir Ian Gilmour, Bt. David Lauder 20:48, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
The Baron is of course higher than the baronetcy but he remains a baronet in addition to the Life Peerage. The Baronetcy is not replaced, so technically you are wrong, regardless of some rule peculiar to Wikipedia. David Lauder 10:25, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
Relation of Sir John Gilmour?
[edit]Are the two related? john k 01:20, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
Heir
[edit]Not that it makes much difference, since it will presumably be changed now that Lord Gilmour has died, but how come his eldest son is his "heir presumptive"? Normally an eldest son is heir apparent: primogeniture and all that Onebyone 20:11, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
- I imagine that's just someone making a mistake. --Counter-revolutionary 20:14, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
