Notes
[edit]- I can't comment on the lack of a comma after "Washington, D.C." until I resolve some questions about which British English style guides to follow. I prefer the comma in AmEng per Chicago 6.17. - Dank (push to talk) 17:16, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Inserted: I should have said, I prefer either two commas (on either side of DC) or none. - Dank (push to talk) 20:16, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Okay, no prob -- I just don't like commas following full stops ("periods" to you, eh!) so is it politic to drop the full stops and say "Washington, DC,"? Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 23:47, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Absolutely, that's more common. - Dank (push to talk) 00:42, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

- I'm using oxforddictionaries.com (OD) for spelling, etc. - Dank (push to talk) 18:09, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- "He was credited with being the first RAAF fighter pilot to receive the DFC in World War II.": Just a suggestion: always give "being" a second look. It's ubiquitous in informal writing but not so much in good writing. Also: I'm not sure what "credited" means here; was there some doubt that he was the first RAAF pilot thus decorated? Would "He was the first RAAF fighter pilot ..." be wrong? - Dank (push to talk) 18:20, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Having been burnt in the past by such claims from even reliable sources I tend to qualify things a bit when I only have one source, however I believe I've since found another so will probably be able to change to the firmer wording you suggest. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 23:47, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Done. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 05:33, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

- "the English Electric Canberra was ordered as the Australia's first jet bomber.": I'm not familiar with "the Australia" in this context. - Dank (push to talk) 20:00, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Heh, the "the Australia's" is a typo no-one (including me of course) spotted before now -- fixed... ;-) Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 23:47, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- I changed "firstly" to "first", but this was based more on American than British English; feel free to revert. Chicago 5.220 doesn't like "firstly" any more. OD says "firstly" should be followed by "secondly", "thirdly", etc. - Dank (push to talk) 20:08, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- No prob, reads fine also. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 23:47, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- In the sentence that begins "As AMSE", "that" and "which" seem nonparallel to me. - Dank (push to talk) 20:12, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Modified. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 23:47, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Done. Beautiful writing; I hope it's okay if I lob BritEng questions at you from time to time. - Dank (push to talk) 20:15, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Heh, coming from you that's a proud compliment -- yes, feel free to ask me BritEng questions anytime... ;-) Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 23:47, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Oh ... yes, if you were considering taking this to FAC, please do. - Dank (push to talk) 21:49, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Many tks. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 23:47, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
