Norman or Tormod??
[edit]The paragraph about Iain's issue states he had two sons... one was Black William, the other is first called Norman, but in the next sentence it is stated that Tormod seems to have been the elder... That makes one son too many, especially since the paragraph later states that William's ascending to Clan Chief, rather than guardian of Norman's son indicates that he was in fact eldest... So who is this Tormod?
Also, given that paragraph's word for word similarity with the corresponding section in William's page (including the blooper/unclear section mentioned above), I wonder if this wasn't a copy and paste from an outside source, and whether there might not be a copyvio issue waiting to happen. --Svartalf (talk) 07:18, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
- Damn, I missed that. The two names are one-and-the-same; in the Highlands, Norman is used as an English form of the Gaelic Tormod. The manuscript actually gives Tormod, but the website which cites three books gives it as Norman [1]. I must not have been thinking properly at the time. Every ref in the article is on-line, so you can check them out yourself. Anyways, I'll keep him as Norman throughout the article, and just put Tormod in brackets when he is first mentioned. That way people won't think there is an extra brother if they look through the refs.--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 07:31, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
- Ach so... ok; I missed that completely since, Tormod being a Norse name, I'd more have expected Norman to be the anglicisation for something on the order of Lachlan (and was actually surprised to see that pagan name used so late)
Thanks --Svartalf (talk) 23:50, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
