"Dreamland" vs "Meet Me Tonight in Dreamland"

[edit]

The tune "Dreamland" on this album is not the Tin Pan Alley Song "Meet Me Tonight in Dreamland". You can listen to Judy Garland sing "Meet Me Tonight..." (from the movie "In the Good Old Summertime") on Youtube and it's obvious. That's why the Motian album credits it to Monk--it's not a typo. Monk recorded it in 1971 for Black Lion Records, and that version was mistitled "Meet Me Tonight in Dreamland", and thus people ever since have been misidentifying this tune. Monk also recorded the tune live for Riverside in 1958 at The Five Spot, a recording that did not get released until the 1980s in the Complete Riverside boxed set. There, it was called simply "Unidentified Piano Solo". 157.131.196.213 (talk) 23:24, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
