Good Article review progress box
|
I will start this review later today; may have it wrapped up by the end of the day if I'm lucky! --K. Peake 09:26, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
Infobox and lead
[edit]- First cover art needs a caption because even though the second is identified as the iTunes cover, readers do not know what the first is in this context
- The spacing for EP in the infobox should be the same as the rest of the spacing
- Remove target on Nolza
- Language should have its own line and replace hlist with bullet points per Template:Infobox song
- Question: Why have the languages been removed? --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- Kyle Peake, Because almost 98% of all K-pop songs have English in them so I thought the parameter served little purpose. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 23:41, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- Good point, keep it removed. --K. Peake 08:45, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- Question: Why have the languages been removed? --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- Remove venue parameter since that is for live recordings
- The genres themselves are fine, but should be sourced in the first section's second para by writing: "Musically, "I Am the Best" is a..." and then writing the genres out before using the term "track" or "song" to end the sentence, or something similar to this
- Audio sample should be in the first section instead because you can add info about it to the text such as mentioning the synths, though align to the left because otherwise it will be incorrectly positioned due to the infobox being also on the right
- Not done it's been moved but you have not added appropriate texts like you could about the synths, for instance. --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- "by South Korean girl group 2NE1." → "by South Korean girl group 2NE1 for their self-titled second EP."
- Writing/production sentence should be the second of the lead instead
- Not done --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- "It serves as the lead single from their self-titled second EP and was digitally released worldwide on June 24, 2011, under YG Entertainment." → "It was released for digital download as the lead single from the EP on June 24, 2011, under YG Entertainment." with the target and wikilink
- "and is described as an" → "The song was described as an"
- Not done --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- Since you will be listing the genres from the infobox, mention them in this sentence
- Question: You have not listed electronic as a genre in the lead for some reason? --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- "combining elements of" → "that combines elements of"
- "with instrumentations of" → "with instrumentation, which includes"
- Drum machine is not sourced anywhere in the body
- "from critics domestically" → "from music critics domestically"
- "praising the song's musical styles and the group's" → "with them praising the song's musical styles and 2NE1's"
- The Korean Wave part is not sourced in the body, though you can do it from the citations that this article already includes
- Not done --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- "charts and sold more than" → "charts, and sold more than"
- Target Billboard to Billboard (magazine)
- Target World Digital Songs to World Digital Song Sales
- "to achieve the feat," → "to achieve this feat."
- Remove the PSY info since that is not notable for the lead
- "The single was subsequently released in the United States" → "The song was subsequently released in the US"
- Wikilink airplay
- "one of the few non-English songs to do so." this is not backed up in the body
Background and composition
[edit]- Wikilink Teddy Park
- "of the group's" → "of 2NE1's"
- "released on June 24, 2011," → "released on June 24,"
- "lead single off the group's" → "lead single from the group's" with the wikilink
- Target Japanese to Japanese language
- "in the Japanese edition" → "on the Japanese edition"
- Change "titled" to "entitled", but why is none of the first para sourced?
- Not done a good amount is still unsourced. --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- "and carries a" → "and has a"
- "is described as a" → "was described as a"
- Target single to Single (music)
- "elements of electronic," → "elements of electronic music," with the wikilink
- "hip hop, with booming synthesizers," → "hip hop with booming synthesizers," with the target and wikilink
- Add some information in this para about the lyrics of the song, as this is needed for the article to be broad in its coverage
- This is fine but it should be last in the section, and add a sentence to the lead about it. --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
Music video
[edit]- Retitle to Music video and promotion
- The first three sentences should be directly before the release info in the first section instead
- This is fine to have not been done, with the context given. --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- Wikilink YouTube
- "the official cover artwork" → "the official cover art"
- Not done --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- Wikilink YG Entertainment
- Not done --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- "until the full track release on June 24." → "until its eventual release on June 24, 2011."
- "However, following a three-day delay after its" → "Following a three-day delay from its"
- Not done --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- "the music video of the song premiered on 2NE1's official" → "the music video for "I Am the Best" premiered through 2NE1's" with the wikilink
- Remove wikilink on YouTube
- Not done for the above --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- "who also directed many of" → "who directed many of"
- Add release years of "Try to Follow Me" and "Can't Nobody" in brackets
- The second para should be the last one since that is separate promotion from the video
- "On July 8," → "On July 8, 2011,"
- "exclusive 2NE1's Nolza concert tickets," → "exclusive concert tickets for 2NE1's Nolza tour,"
- Wikilink Adidas Originals
- There is info about the synopsis of the video; take 7 for example, so why is none of this mentioned here before the reception?
- Not done --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- "crossed the 100 million views mark on YouTube, making it" → "surpassed 100 million views on YouTube, making 2NE1"
- Not done --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- Wikilink K-pop
- "the feat at the time" → "this feat at the time"
- "the eighth K-pop music video" → "the eighth K-pop video"
- December 2020 view count is unsourced; either add a source that states this or remove it, as YouTube should not be used for sourcing view counts because it is updated constantly
Commercial performance
[edit]- This section should be the one directly above In popular culture
- "digital charts and became their" → "digital charts in the country and thus becoming their"
- "was the fourth-best-selling track of the year in the country." → "ranked as the fourth-best-selling track of the year in South Korea."
- Song of the Year should not be mentioned here since that is not a commercial statistic
- "was broadcast beginning in August 2014." → "was broadcast from August 2014 onwards."
- "With increased visibility from the ad campaign, the song reached number one" → "As a result of increased visibility from the advertising campaign, the song reached number one in the United States"
- Remove target on Billboard
- Target World Digital Songs to World Digital Song Sales
- Not done --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- "and third Korean song overall, the first two being Psy's "Gangnam Style" in August 2012 and "Gentleman" in April 2013." → "and the third Korean song overall, with the first two being Psy's singles "Gangnam Style" and "Gentleman" in August 2012 and April 2013, respectively."
- "held the distinction" → "has held the distinction"
- "tied with BTS's" → "tied with BTS'" with the wikilink
- Add release year of "Mic Drop" in brackets
Reception
[edit]- Move to being the second section of the article
Question: Is this a must? It seems a bit unnatural to have most of the prose underneath the reception and awards. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 16:24, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- It is how things are commonly ordered on Wiki and is more appropriate, as a song's critical reception should come before its music video info for example. --K. Peake 17:03, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- "received critical acclaim from critics." → "was met with acclaim from music critics."
- "and noted the group's" → "and noted 2NE1's"
- Are you sure you can't add more reviews than the Pithfork outside of rankings?
- Medium should not be here per WP:RSP
- "writing that the song" → "writing that it"
- Target Billboard to Billboard (magazine)
- Not done and this is the first mention, remember. --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- "world of Korean pop."" → "world of Korean pop"."
- Target British GQ to GQ
- "in the industry" → "in the K-pop industry"
- Listicles → Lists for "I Am the Best"
- You should use the sortable rowheader for the table; make every column sortable apart from refs though
- Only the rankings and refs should be centered
In popular culture
[edit]- "appeared in several television series" → "appeared on several television series"
- "in which the lead," → "in which the lead character,"
- No appropriate citation(s) for backing up the first sentence
- "the song was featured in" → the song was used for"
- "it appeared in" → "the song appeared in"
- None of the last two sentences of the first para are backed up anywhere
- Remove wikilink on Surface Pro 3
- Not done --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- "appealed to them, as "the song's confident lyrics" → "appealed to them since the "confident lyrics"
- Add release year of Dance Central 3 in brackets
- "to be listed in" → "to be featured in"
- "2NE1's lead vocalist CL co-headlined the 2018 Winter Olympics closing ceremony" → "CL co-headlined the closing ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics with Exo" with the wikilink and target, though this performance should be in music video and promotion instead
- Not done for the moving part, or is there a reason this is here instead that I'm not aware of? --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- Kyle Peake, Well according to 2NE1's article, they disbanded after 2016 so I don't think this performance counts as promotions. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 23:46, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- No it does not, you are correct and thanks for informing me. --K. Peake 08:45, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- Not done for the moving part, or is there a reason this is here instead that I'm not aware of? --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- "daughter of current President of the United States" → "daughter of US president" with the target
Accolades
[edit]- Retitle to Industry awards and move to being in-between Reception and Music video
- Not done for the retitling
- Awards → Awards for "I Am the Best"
- Same issues with the table from earlier in terms of rowheader, columns and centering (results instead of rankings though, but do refs)
- Not done they are not sortable? --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- Target Best Dance Performance — Female Group to Mnet Asian Music Award for Best Dance Performance
- Target MTV Video Music Awards Japan to 2012 MTV Video Music Awards Japan
- Not done --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- Music program awards → Music program awards for "I Am the Best"
- Fixes need to made here but nothing should be centered at all this time apart from refs
- Make the other cols sortable though. --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

- South Korea (Gaon Digital) → South Korea (Gaon)
- Remove the second chart since that is not notable
Sales
[edit]- Retitle to Certifications and sales, placing South Korea and United States sales in what is currently the Certifications table
- Question: Should it really say digital download after mentioning the certification is for the Japanese version? --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- See MOS:TABLECAPTION
Release history
[edit]- See MOS:TABLECAPTION
- Release date → Date
- Distributor → Label(s)
- Refs should have their separate column and be centered
- Split labels using hlist
- Target KT Music to Genie Music
- Not done --K. Peake 20:07, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- Why is the Japan release not included here?
- Removed since I found no evidence the song was even released as a Japanese single. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 23:49, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
Done with everything up to here so far. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 23:19, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

Final comments and verdict
[edit]- On hold despite there being a number of issues that need to be fixed; I noticed throughout that the organization of content was quite prevalent. --K. Peake 16:54, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Kyle Peake: Okay, I'll fix everything that you mentioned. I'll probably get it done today or the next day or so. Thank you for your time and the thorough review! ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 18:56, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Nkon21: That is very good to hear and it is my pleasure to have reviewed the article in detail! I will be able to respond to you on any of the days that you are planning to get everything done, but it may be a slightly slower response on the weekend than Friday since I will be working for hours on both Saturday and Sunday. Just make sure you cover everything suggest though, as a common issue I've noticed on Wiki is editors missing suggested changes. --K. Peake 19:00, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Kyle Peake: Ok, I think that covers just about everything. Let me know what still needs to be done. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 16:24, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Nkon21: I have responded to your questions where you still required help, also you have not made a number of the fixes I suggested that haven't marked by you with a question strike or anything else; should I plank a Not done template on the fixes you've missed or will you be content with having another look at the review comments and identifying which ones you missed? --K. Peake 17:03, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Kyle Peake: Yes, please tell me what I have missed. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 18:39, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
